Blues Hopeful on Trio Ahead of Opener
Monday, 31st Jul 2017 17:50

On-loan Manchester City winger Bersant Celina was back in training this morning, while strike pair Joe Garner and David McGoldrick were also at Playford Road although not joining in with the rest of the squad.

Celina missed Thursday’s Open Day and Saturday’s friendly at Charlton due to the illness bug which has hit the squad in pre-season, while McGoldrick was also ruled out of the trip to the Valley as he was unwell.

Garner suffered a shoulder injury when he was sent crashing as Andre Dozzell scored Town’s goal against the Addicks. The Blues are hopeful that all three will be available for Saturday’s season opener with Birmingham at Portman Road.

Already ruled out of Saturday's match are midfielder Emyr Huws (calf), Tom Adeyemi (illness), Teddy Bishop (groin) and Luke Hyam (ankle).

Meanwhile, the Blues are reported to have made a move for an unnamed Premier League striker, however, we understand that while Town are continuing their attempts to land another frontman before Saturday, no deal is currently close to being confirmed.

Think we need more than one linked player - depth of squad plain to see after Charlton

A personal tribute to:- Battyblue. A devoted ITFC Fan, TWTD reader, and poster - a close personal friend for over 60 years. Sadly passed away today totally unexpectedly.

A win against Birmingham on Saturday would have pleased him immensely.

R.I.P. - my close friend. You will be missed by so many.

Looking at the team photo.in the press,i could not but notice how many backroom staff there are.In the last 3/4 years under McCarthy despite this we seem to have endless "crocks".Over trained with to much pressure being put on the body do you think? I remember in "the good old days"under Sir Alf,Bill McGarry,Sir Bobby all of whom won titles and cups injuries were very scarce.

Even the nastiest strains of flu do not go on for 4 weeks mr Adeyemi

muccletonjoe: I too have questioned this "flu." You don't normally get flu in the summer, and you'd expect a fit young man to be ready to train again after two weeks. Must be another type of bug, and it does seem pretty virulent. I hope they all recover soon and prove that the s*** served up at Charlton was more due to illness than lack of talent. But I'm not optimistic.

Not just Adeyemi. How much longer are Bishop and Hyam going to be out for? What is wrong with our back room support that these players do not recover more quickly?
