Cardiff and Birmingham Linked With McGoldrick
Thursday, 4th Jan 2018 12:50

Cardiff City and Birmingham City are reportedly keen on Town striker David McGoldrick, whose Blues contract is up at the end of the season.

According to The Sun, Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock wants the 30-year-old as he looks to boost his side's promotion aspirations, while Midlanders’ manager Steve Cotterill is also said to be interested as his club battles relegation.

It’s claimed Town might be tempted by a small fee for McGoldrick, whose deal is up in the summer with his terms not including an option for the club to keep him for a further year.

Didz and Mick to go one way, and Warnock to come here

A fantastic player and a joy to watch, but he will leave for free at the end of the season, so lets take whatever we can get for him now. I suspect he is one of our top earners, so it would he's departure would help to fund some desperately needed reinforcements.

nysully: Who says McC won't be here next year? We don't know. Many supporters would like a change; others feel "better the devil you know." If he does elect to leave, you can bet he will be in demand from some clubs who will look to his experience and dogged qualities to bring stability. If he doesn't, I expect next season to be fairly similar to this one.

Time to release McGoldrick and to be brutally honest if we didn't have so many injuries there are numerous others I would release.
We need a complete club rebuild I.e. owner, manager and 90% of the players all require a change out.
Just typing that out cheered me up but I am also realistic to understand the rebuild will not happen. Instead we can look forward to a slow painful demise sliding into div 1.

Get gone, cash in.

Not sure about this one - I agree with the poster who notes that apparently we'll settle for a 'small fee' when Ian 'the powers that be' Milne bleats about the inflated cost of strikers and our failure in previous windows. Albeit that this came from the Sun.
Cash in for a decent fee and re-invest? Yes, with reservations. On his day and fit, he could make the difference this season.
Get rid on the cheap on the basis he could walk away for nothing in the summer? No, take the chance on the difference he could yet make this season.

Maybe a swap deal on the cards, Cardiff got any decent midfielders?

Not surprised that there maybe interest in didz but i'm gobsmacked that there is no interest in our premiership class number 8

He's going in May so sell him now. Yes he has been great but we should be planning for the future and using fee to fund loans etc

Take him please. I know some people wet their knickers over him but I honestly don't rate him and I'm fed up of watching him wandering around the pitch rolling his head about like a constipated dinosaur.

Great on his day at this level but those days are too few and far.

I'd sell and hopefully bring in a couple of hundred thousand before he walks (or hobbles) for nothing come the summer.

Love to watch him play, he is very clever and gets away from players. Works very hard when he is fit.
Would have thought his best destination is Forest where his family lives.
Never going to get much for him.

Though Didz is technically a good player, his pace, or lack of it, is what makes him not a huge loss.

Just like Moore no matter what fee we get for him, it will not get reinvested into the squad.

What a mess this club is in.

There's no one in our side that can open up play & create space for himself as good as Didz, saying that, if we can get a fee then based on the injury side of things, then it's time to leave. Think I remember him saying that his family are up in Nottingham, so a move to that region looks favourite.

One of (if not the most) technically gifted players at the Club - never made the most of by MM as yet another player who has spent most of his time playing out of position.

Downside is that he has been somewhat injury prone - but if truth be told, never over enthusiastic to return knowing full well he will be expected to slot back into a wide alien position yet again. I would certainly feel that way for what it's worth.... !! - in his situation.

McGoldrick is a player that a team should be built around - and not wasted. Under a defensive 'hoofball' Manager he will never achieve his true potential.

If you move on McGoldrick, those who know the game will have appreciated your wasted talent - and wish you well at another Club that plays the game as it should be played.

......... anyone who doesn't recognise his wasted talent at Portman Road - shouldn't have the audacity to comment on him.

Far better for them to study the beautiful game, and begin to understand how it should be played - NOT as it has been played under the present Manager for far, far too long.

Personally I think with the distinct lack of any footballing quality in this squad it would be a mistake to let him go until the end of the season for a minimal fee that we would get . Dids has the ability to turn a game but isn't suited to the constant kick and rush that we again seem to be reverting back to as we always do at Christmas and there after .
Need better footballing players around him that can actually keep the ball and not just chase the opposition around work hard top blokes

I'm a fan of McGoldrick but I would be tempted to sell now and recoup a fee. He's a good technical player but his languid style, lack of pace and his proneness to injury perhaps make him surplus to requirements.

We need someone who is tougher with more energy.

Plenty of talent but far to slow, how many attacks are held up because of him

Our most naturally gifted outfield player (although there isn't much competition)
Capable of creating opportunities for himself out of nothing.
However, have always felt that he blows hot and cold.
Get the money for him now and give Kieffer Moore a run out.
Perhaps, being young fit and tall he would be more adapt to Mick's ' don't let it bounce ' style of football and score a few to help us reach that coveted 14th place league position?

Is he realistically going to fancy going to Birmingham or Cardiff?

His family is based in the Midlands, so Cardiff is a bit of a trek, and would he really want to go to Birmingham at this point in time with them quite possibly playing in League 1 next year? I would be surprised if he went to either, but may be his agent drumming up some interest.

He would look much better in a good footballing team. No use when the ball sails over his head!

The problem here is we are unlikely to get very much for him, so who would we get as a permanent replacement? No point to a loan. Need to build a squad.
