Bialkowski Makes Poland Debut
Friday, 23rd Mar 2018 21:58

Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski made his senior international debut as a half-time sub as Poland were defeated 1-0 by Nigeria in Wroclaw.

The 30-year-old replaced Swansea's Lukasz Fabianski ahead of the second half and conceded the game’s only goal in the 61st minute when Chelsea's Victor Moses beat him from the penalty spot.

Bialkowski, the first Blues player ever to win a cap for Poland, is one of four keepers in the squad along with Fabianski, Wojciech Szczesny (Juventus) and Lukasz Skorupski (Roma).

While two of Nawalka’s World Cup keepers look nailed-on certainties - Szczesny and Fabianski - the third space in the squad travelling to Russia is more open with Skorupski currently not playing games for his club.

Bialkowski will hope to have impressed manager Adam Nawalka and his staff with his performance during tonight's match and in training.

Poland, who will be in World Cup Group H along with Senegal, Colombia and Japan, face South Korea in another friendly in Chorzów on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, academy youngster Kian Ronan won his first Gibraltar U21s cap as a 58th minute sub as his side lost 6-0 at home to Serbia in a European Championships qualifier.

The 17-year-old Harlow-based right-back or midfielder, a first-year scholar who qualifies for Gibraltar as his mother and grandparents were born there, previously won caps at U17 and U19 levels.

The Gibraltarian youngsters have another home European Championships qualifier against Russia on Tuesday.

He will be away in the summer. Out of. Out of contract and a freebie. Let young Crowe have a go for last few games.

Well played.

The silver lining to this is that the price we get in the summer will increase.

It's great for him. Coming from the lower leagues to full international recognition and now a move to the Prem. Can't say he's not earned it.

As much as we will miss him, he's earned the right and we've earned a hefty fee.

I do wish people would fact check before getting mopey!! Out of contract?! Was never a penalty last night by the way, horrible dive by Moses.

hollywoodginge, why let a little thing like facts get in the way of being negative?

Yes Ipswich do have option but It doesn't mean he's going to sign it? The national coach may have said to him he needs to play at a higher level and seriously that isn't going to be us for another few years is it? Cheers Bart and it may mean goodbye too?

Lightingblue is typical of some comments here. Utterly out of touch with facts & any comment they can muster to fit their narrative. It is like having a human Daily Mail posting on TWTD.

Bart, whether he signs the new contract or not, would be obliged to play another year if we triggered the extra 1 year option- which we obviously would.

Deserved. Our best player by a mile. Will now be in demand. Will he sign a contract with us? Time will tell.

Dukey- if the CLUB have the option, they trigger it, there is nothing for the player to sign. If the player has the option, he can then leave. The club have the option in Bart's case.

Fair play to him, picked against the odds, as plying his trade in the championship. From his personal viewpoint, it's ideal playing for Ipswich, because any goalkeeper will be extremely busy, and, as a result of that has played for his nation. It is a dream come true for him, and, as has been said, his father looking down will be so proud. Good luck to the man, he owes us nothing, and deserves premiership football.

Holly I'm not disputing that but with the way our club is run with the rubbish management structure we have at the mo why would he want to stay? Get rid of Mick and get someone in that gives us some sort of direction then maybe yes but at the mo no. I can't see him staying now just my opinion...

Dukey44... I agree, I too think MM should go. That doesn't excuse the level of ignorance, trigger happy negative comments and intellectual pygmyism found among comments.

Glad I amuse you, though... keeps you away from the sharp objects.

IamSpartacus you know jack about me and your comments shows me your ignorance your final comment is bang out of order and you really do need to realize what you have just said has rather cheesed me off. Opinions are what this is all about and I got one hope Bart furthers his career else where with a descent manager and not a muppet merry go round that our club is now with the owner and dross manager

I would comment further but really don't want to cause any bother for anyone as like I said you know jack about me but all the best to you!

A year option is always for the club. However if a player really wants to leave there are usually provisions for that. I believe with Bart there's a better and longer contract on the table but he's waiting to find out about management changes before deciding whether to sign. As much as many fans have fallen out with Mick, he's still very popular with the players and the players see the booing as criticism of them. When there's a toxic environment getting players to sign new deals becomes much more difficult.
