Lambert Still After Two More Signings Friday, 16th Aug 2019 11:46 Blues boss Paul Lambert welcomed owner Marcus Evans loosening the purse strings for the signing of Kane Vincent-Young from Colchester, which looks set to be completed in the next few days, but says he needs another two new recruits. The £500,000 addition of Vincent-Young sees the Blues pay a rare fee, their first of the summer and only the second since Lambert came to the club, a nominal sum having been handed over to Brentford for Alan Judge in January. Lambert says he’s pleased that Evans has finally given him some money to spend, but hopes that’s not the end of the available cash. “Yeah, but I need more,” he said. “We needed strengthening and if [Vincent-Young] does come and it does go through, he fits into the mould of the club and the way the club is at the minute, and he’s got every attribute there. So if it does happen, it’ll be a really good signing for us.” Asked if he’ll still be on at Evans to part with more cash, he added: “Listen, we get on well, we do. As I said before, there’s some toing and froing, but me and Marcus get on well.” The Blues boss reiterated that a striker to compete with James Norwood and Kayden Jackson is among those targets: “Yeah, because Saturday, Tuesday games are relentless, so it’s another area where I think we need that bit of help.” He added: “I said before, I think we’ve got some really good footballers here, it was just the balance of the squad that didn’t feel quite right. “We’ve one real left-back in Myles [Kenlock], Tristan [Nydam] obviously was a blow with his [ankle] break, [Luke] Garbutt is out [with a knee problem], so we will try.” Asked whether the transfer window now being closed for Premier League and Championship clubs makes things easier, he continued: “There can be that, but again there are ones there that we’ve tried to get in from Premier League clubs, and it’s not quite materialised because the lads are close to their first team. “So you’ve got that added problem to it. Some might be a first loan as well, which can happen which isn’t ideal but that’s where we are at the minute, but it all depends on who you go for really.” Lambert has said he doesn’t want too many loans but having signed two already - Garbutt and keeper Will Norris - he says he may have to look at that market again, albeit reluctantly. “You might have to short-term to get where you want to get to sometimes,” he admitted. “It’s not ideal, I’ve always said it’s not ideal. “In my opinion, it’s not the right way to try and build your own team, but sometimes it's dictated. It’s not an ideal scenario.”
