Upstairs for George?
Upstairs for George?
Tuesday, 1st Oct 2002 11:51

Tabloid reports this morning claim the Blues are about to move George Burley to an 'upstairs' role, bringing in a new coach to take over in a more hands-on role.

The story, which looks like a rehash of yesterday's report which said that a new coach was on the way in to assist the underfire Blues' boss, says the current Town manager would become director of football.

Meanwhile, Town legend Kevin Beattie has backed former Leeds manager David O'Leary as a possible candidate to assist Burley. Beattie says in his Evening Star column: "What have Ipswich got to lose in inviting him on board for the rest of the year? Give him a three-month deal as a consultant and see if he can help to turn things round.

"O'Leary was one of the world's best defenders at the peak of his career and, straight away, could stop Town leaking so many sloppy goals."
