Town Launch Third Strip Tuesday, 23rd Aug 2022 14:18 Town have officially launched the all-black third kit leaked by sponsor Ed Sheeran earlier this lunchtime.
The club say the strip has been designed in collaboration with Sheeran and is available for pre-order now.
Paul Macro, Town's head of retail operations, told the club site: “We thought it would be great to get Ed involved in the design of our third kit.
“The idea to turn the graphic found on the front of the Equals album into a tonal colour to match the blackout styling of the shirt really appealed to us.
“After playing around with a couple of different concepts we settled on the pattern running through the sleeves and also the short panel. This gave us a really unique, smart looking kit.
“Ed loved the final designs and it’s great to finally show off this collaboration to our supporters.”
Sheeran added: “I got asked to help design the third kit for Ipswich. I wanted to make something with a subtle homage to the album but also be a cool bit of clothing people around the world would want to wear. I love it.”
The first 3,000 fans who pre-order within the first two weeks will receive a limited edition Ed Sheeran Official Top Trump card which will not be sold separately.
Town say pre-orders should be dispatched towards the middle of September with the shirts available on general sale towards the end of September.

My wife went of the Sunderland website junior 7 year old shirt £45 adult £76 just to give you a compassion of what other clubs are charging. Just tried to find price and website redirecting to Ocado website so somethings not right. A lot of cash for a shirt but thats probably my age.

The new EFL regulations mean this kit could be worn at home as well as away, generally to resolve issues relating to colour-blindness.

Please can somebody guarantee me that if I buy this shirt I won't be getting a free CD. I haven't worn a replica top since 2002, and having Ed's music in my collection would spoil my day and bring shame on my family.

Sorry but I'm a bit disappointed in the club re this tbh. It's purely about making money.

No one forces you to buy it do they if you want it you buy it the club aren't holding a gun to your head!

I won't be buying it and I'm sure many others will and won't as well. But this doesn't detract from my point that it's an unnecessary kit which (in my humble opinion) had been brought out solely to make more money. Isn't that what the Man Utd's, Chelsea's, Liverpools etc do? It's the “ intent” behind this third kit that I'm not that happy about, but you go and buy it by all means. Here's hoping you don't have kids that “ must have” etc ….

It would be a nice gesture if the club said that they will keep this third kit the same for two or three seasons. I like it, and I like the connection between Ed and the club, but agree with others that having three new kits each season is unsustainable financially (and I would add environmentally). Using it for more seasons would justify the need for the team to have it, and wouldn't hurt the club finances, as I'm sure more fans of Ed would buy it too. I think they should keep using this kit as long as Ed remains our sponsor.

I liked his comment about people around the world wanting to wear it because it looks good. Free advertising, make a change from seeing Arsenal and Man U kit everywhere.

ArnieM I usually agree with most of your posts, but not with this one. As a business that needs to continually make money either with true fans of ITFC, or indeed in this case Ed Sheehan fans, what's not to like? If I was still in my shirt buying years, I'd have bought this in preference to the other two. Plus the income could be the difference between us getting a better quality squad for the future, or some no-hoper, past his prime reject. They're definitely going to generate a lot of money, and besides most other clubs do this kind of thing.
