Former Striker Priskin Retires
Thursday, 25th May 2023 12:08

Former Town striker Tamas Priskin has announced his retirement at the age of 36.

Priskin joined Roy Keane’s Blues for £1.7 million from Watford in the summer of 2009 but failed to live up to that price tag.

In total, he made 35 starts and 25 sub appearances for Town, scoring nine goals.

Capped 63 times by Hungary, scoring 17 times and appearing twice at Euro 2016, Priskin’s highlight of his time with the Blues was scoring the winning goal in the 1-0 Carling Cup semi-final first leg victory over Arsenal at Portman Road.

Slovakia-born Priskin left Portman Road in January 2012 after his contract was terminated by mutual consent having spent spells on loan at QPR, Swansea and Derby County. He joined Russian side Alania Vladikavkaz a few days later.

Priskin, who had had a stint on loan at Preston while with the Hornets, went on to play for Austria Vienna, Maccabi Haifa (loan), back with Győri ETO where he had started his career, Slovan Bratislava, Ferencvaros, Haladas and Győri ETO for a third spell.

He played his final match for Győri ETO on Sunday, coming on as a sub as they drew 2-2 at home to Csakvar.

Writing on Instagram, Priskin responded to goodwill posts from fans: “Thank you very much for the many messages, kind words and the great farewell match to the ETO fans🙏🏻🤗💚

“A very long era in my life has ended, which was full of more beautiful moments than ever.”

He added: ”When one door closes, somewhere another one opens.”

One of my very few gripes with the new owners is including a massive picture of Tamas Priskin on the banners on the back of the North Stand. No offence to the bloke but he has no right being up there alongside club legends.

That goal against Arsenal does make me hope we have a cup run next season though, would be so good to get to the latter stages.

Have a happy & healthy retirement Tamas.

At least he was a permanent signing, unlike Bonne, who has a banner for sneaking around!

I liked Priskin, had his name on my shirt at the time (the black away one). Was really chuffed when he got the winner against Arsenal after putting in a superb performance. What a night! Up until this season's fixtures against Port Vale and Exeter, I'd say that has to be the best game at PR in recent memory, particularly in terms of atmosphere.

Yep, banner review needed this summer. Legends only please.

clive_baker, I'm not his number 1 fan either but those pictures are of iconic moments which have happened in front of that stand. Priskin's goal against Arsenal hasn't arguably been topped since it happened.

Match against Arsenal was the first evening match I took my grandson to, and he thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Great memories but Priskin never lived up to the hype surrounding his signing, hopefully will enjoy a happy retirement.

How iconic was it though? A 1st leg win against Arsenal in a tie we ultimately lost 3-1. It's all a bit Norwichy IMO.

The pictures are for moments aren't they not players otherwise wouldn't have anyone up there aside from the teams from a long time ago would we

Clive baker!!! , over yourself , one of your very few gripes against the owners , , which means you have others , unlike most of us who are TOTALLY happy with the new owners , with no gripes whatsoever, and as superblues9 said its all about moments , think its time for your all inclusive holiday at pakefied to bring back your brain

We beat Arsenal who had fabregas etc al in their side. It was a very bright moment during awful, turbulent times, which were only then replaced by Mick the Mouth. He in turn gave us 2 seasons to cheer about maybe and a longer period of stability but stagnation. My other favourite moment was the 5-3 comeback victory at Barnsley in 2011. As for Tamasz, wishing him all the best and thanks again for his efforts here. He was far from the only one who was bought by Keane or Jewell for big money only to not live up to expectations. Not even the only one to have his contract paid up to leave. The problem was at least as much our club at that time as the players who were with us.

clive, For a fan in his mid 20s who hasn't experienced any real success, it was very iconic. As for the "legends only" comment, take a walk along the Cobbold Stand, that is where you will see all those faces.

Lets remind some once again that a True Blue is any Permanent Contract Signed Player - who've ever pulled on an ITFC Shirt.
It should also be remembered that Players don't always fit into a Mangers style of Game Plan - i.e. played out of their best position - and we've seen some of that !!
Happy Retirement Tamasz, and Good Luck for your future.
Thank You for your service to ITFC. ⚽️

Clivebaker. Are you for real? Those pictures are sbout iconic moments in the clubs history. Whether the player involved is a legend of the club or not, is irrelevant. He is still part of that history, and that
iconic moment. Who are you to say he's not a legend anyway. May not be to many of us, but I've seen other players being called legends, who I'd never put in that category. Not for me to tell those fans theyre wrong tho is it? We all have our own legends. For me, it's pretty much the entire 1980/81 team. But thats bcse im fortunate enough to have been around at that time. Others will say players from later times. All a matter of every individuals perception.

We paid too much and he delivered too little.

Thank you Roy “big mouth” Keane.

blues1 there's nobody alive on this planet that can call Tamas Priskin a club legend, I'm not having that.

@joyous I can't make Pakefield this year, I've got a 2 week all inclusive booked in Hemsby.

A player with good technical ability but never really adapted to the English game.

Tamas Priskin was a good footballer who was unfortunately signed by a bad manager when coming here. It was like Keane had never seen him play before signing him & expected him to completely change his game once here, rather than actually set the team up to provide the centre forward with the kind of service he thrived on. Surely you would expect than when spending nearly £2m on your main forward.
It was no surprise that Priskin's best game was immediately after Keane left & he got the kind of ball in to feet, where he held up play, turned the defender & gave lay offs before moving into good positions for the return etc.
Ultimately he was the wrong player for what was happening here at the time, but could have been utilised far far better. I wish him well.

An iconic moment that I will not forget. No he's no legend, but what a goal! The problem at the time was not Priskin, it was the Dark Lord Keane and the ineffective useless leadership of Evans and his CEO Clegg

I thought he'd retired when he came here.

Possibly the best International goal by a Town player in recent times and it took Hungary to their first major championships in years...

Wasn't he retired before he got here?

He'd do well in a Kieran McKenna team ... well the younger version of him would anyway.

There was a loooong dry period after Joe Royle and during the Marcus Evans era where we didn't hit true highs. But that night in Portman road Tamas knew to rise to the occasion and he played well the whole game. My Arsenal mate was dumb founded as we watched the game. A good day that one. Then down to the Emirates, what a stadium, I watched on as they beat us, in that grand stadium the Emirates. No prize, just a good memory. Thanks Tamas.
