Rumours in Stoke continue to suggest Town interest in Icelandic central defender Brynjar Gunnarsson. Stoke failed to make the Second Division play-off final, and therefore the First Division, and manager Gudjon Thordarson is likely to struggle to keep several of his players.

As expected Richard Wright has signed a new deal with Town. The keeper will stay with Town until the end of the 2003/04 season. He is pretty much the last of the younger Town players to be tied down on a long-term deal.

Richard Wright has confirmed he will be signing his new deal once a few minor details have been sorted out. Earlier both George Burley and his agent Jonathan Barnett had said a deal was imminent.

The Scottish press are once again linking Town with Sergei Baltacha Jnr. The son of the former Town star and first Russian in English football has seen his St Mirren side relegated this season and as one of their prize assets is likely to be the subject of speculation.

Town will be at full strength for Saturday's crunch game with Derby. Marcus Stewart is fit and has had no reaction from his thigh injury. No-one else has picked up a knock and only Keith Branagan is missing from the squad.
