Unpopular opinion: I wouldn’t have Sarmiento back next season
at 18:44 8 May 2024

Agree 100%.

With only two loans allowed we need way better. He never made the first choice 11; and though a great sub (and top loan) that was in the Championship.

Certainly possible he’ll get another year. His pace and power are valuable assets, especially off the bench. Great attitude too.

I guess we’ll see…!

IF we don't go up... Which players do we see being wanted by bigger clubs?
at 14:03 23 Apr 2024

Amongst your inevitable miserableness and tediousness, the point on Davis is possibly fair - he can come across as defensively lightweight, and I suspect that will be a key point for teams looking at him.

But the overall package for the right team is so positive. He is an assist machine, a really clever passer in the final third, a good reader of the game, quick, and his energy is astonishing. Those with three centre backs will I feel love him. So there should be lots of interest.

Do we cope ok without Burns?
at 11:28 17 Mar 2024

I feel this is one position we now have solid cover. Hutchinson, Sarmiento and Jackson, plus Clarke in a more defensive version, all offer options.

We’ll miss Burns but not like we’d miss Davis.

I’d suggest it was a brilliant pass, not just “good”.

He’s clearly good enough for this level, McKenna wouldn’t trust him and play him if he wasn’t.

And being as hard working as him is a great strength.

Excellent squad player.

Tuanzebe was quality today
at 22:20 2 Mar 2024

I agree, thought similar. Strong second half, and certainly has a physicality that strikers don’t like.

However Woolf, Burgess and Morsy were the standout players for me.

My guess is Clarke might return on Tuesday. Two games in a short period might be too much for AT.

It is just great to see Tuanzebe playing, and playing well. Good for his confidence, and an important option for us.

It probably is time for a new Cobbold stand
at 19:21 1 Mar 2024

The rebuilt Churchman’s and North stands added 7000 seats, a 30% increase to the capacity, with good views and facilities. “Just a small number”, what garbage.

I agree it was unwise to do both at once, way too risky, and proved a big mistake.

Building and financing new stands is the stuff of nightmares for sports clubs.

People can be so rude on here. It’s a perfectly fair topic - essentially, can we fit in our new signing at some stage?

Well, I get why you’d like to see him in the team. He seems a strong, exciting player. A real crowd pleaser.

Can’t see it currently in the way we set up, but who knows with the injuries we have and also we may look to do things differently against specific opposition.

Be fascinating to see what he offers if and when he gets a start!

Morsy is a way better player, and in a way better team than either QPR or Birmingham!

And I’m delighted both of those things are true 😀

Yep, he was good from 30-60 mins. Was surprised (and glad) he was taken off.

He wasn’t influential the first 30, but no one from Birmingham was. We were playing very well.

Lots of lazy, biased and ‘old’ opinion on here.

Axel !!! ..... absolute class

I thought he was ok. Very good run for the goal and several strong tackles and generally good tracking. He also lost a lot of headers which I was disappointed by. Certainly solid but no more than that for me.

Not sure he was MoM. I thought Hutchison’s was far more of a standout performance.

Tuanzebe tonight

How do we know he’d get better and better?

Clearly McKenna doesn’t think so or he’d have done just that a while ago.

Our away defence compared to home defence

As if referees could do that. They make mistakes but they’d never do that.

Unless I’m being swooshed, that is plain ridiculous

Brandon Williams still at United as of Wednesday evening
at 12:02 17 Feb 2024

If we got promoted I could imagine Burns transformed into a wing-back, Leif on the other side, three at the back.

He has the athleticism, toughness and plenty of pace. And he won’t be skilful enough to be an attacker at that level.

He played v well last night, great to see. It was against a very poor team though, especially on his side.

He’s definitely likeable, has a brilliant attitude and is a good athlete; however, and especially against better teams, he gets out of position far too much. We’ve seen that many times.

I think he’s a very good player against average Championship teams, and not yet the answer against teams in the top half and especially when up against tricky wingers. Hopefully he’ll continue to learn, and fast.

At around this stage last season

I presumed so too. Woolf is clearly a top half Championship level player, but expected Tuanzebe to be the upgrade.

He clearly hasn’t got up to the level we hoped he’d get back to. Currently he looks a disappointment / gamble that hasn’t worked.

Signings wise, it feels like we have not got the one or two upgrades we’d have hoped for in the last two windows, bar arguably Hirst/Moore.

The cost of upgrading and/or luck required with those who are kids or cheaper or injury prone hasn’t seen any of last seasons regulars replaced.

Much stronger bench though

Good defenders but does Edmondson have the skill, class and confidence to play out from the back alongside Clarke? Looks risky to me.

Woolfenden has been consistently good. Surprised you’d see him as anything other than the strongest on the right side. He’s a terrific footballer, makes mistakes of course, as they all do, and is often the last man.

I see the right back as the issue. Clarke is often out of position, gifting space. Since Williams dropped out of the picture, and no JD, we’ve not quite looked the same.

Excuses, excuses!

Though I agree with all the above plus I’d add we’re not playing as well, the luck we enjoyed earlier in the season is now not going our way, teams have worked us out.

Top 6 would still be a remarkable season.
