Jewell: Everything That Could Have Gone Wrong in the Transfer Market Has
at 06:52:14

Nice to see the club is looking at 3-4 year deals on players who want to sign. Can't help but think one of those 'pay day' players may have been Edu....*slowly stirs early morning coffee anti-clockwise*

Town's Agent Spending Down
at 19:59:59

There is a definite need for agents in the game, the way agents are starting to demand astronomical fees is not needed. However, let's make a calculated assessment on why agents are needed, and demanding high fees.

Agents are needed to safe guard both the player they represent, and the Association that the player is registered with (FA/SFA etc etc). The agent acts on behalf of the player in a similar way that a solicitor would during a conveyance or inheritance. I certainly wouldn't want to attempt the sale of my house for example, so why would a footballer attempt to negotiate a contract (especially if they have no idea about what it is they are signing). By that, we have to remember that a footballer is not just signing to say I agree to that amount per week, and that amount of annual rise based upon appearances and bonuses. They are signing to say 'I will not ride a motorbike' or 'I will not go on extreme sport holidays' or 'I will eat this and/or that' etc etc.

Of course, I do not know what other clauses and restrictions there are, but I imagine the fine print around such clauses is a legal nightmare, which I or one would not be comfortable approaching.

As for the astronomical fees that have been seen (RVP and 4Mil). I imagine a lot of that is based upon the agent 'convincing' their client to agree to certain clauses and restrictions within a contract. "I will get him to agree to this and that etc etc, but it will cost you £X". The bigger the club, the bigger the player, the more money involved in the fee/wages, the likelihood of even more restrictions that club want to impose on their player. Safeguarding their investment!

It is a massive game of chess, and one that has spiralled out of control, but to suggest there is no need for agents would potentially harm the sport we love even more, opposed to repairing the damage that has already been done.

Smith and New Zealand Draw
at 17:13:22

@ RetroBlue, completely disagree. His fitness and experience by playing in the Olympics will be far supeior than what pre-season training and friendlies can offer. In all honesty, if he had turned down the place in favour for an ITFC pre season I would have questioned his confidence in his own abilities. I think to suggest a young player, especially an ITFC player should abstain from representing his country and playing at the highest level is farsical.

It does bring into question what knowledge, if any, some of the ITFC fans have!

Tottenham Midfielder Luongo Set for Town Loan
at 23:33:01

Massive points being overlooked here....who has said that a) this is not a loan with a view to a permenant deal or b) the lad was developing under Klug at Spurs last year, now the whole management at Spurs (including youth set-up) has changed, this kid is likely to play his heart out to keep a contract/attract other clubs (possibly us). How is that negative. Will make the likes of Hyam/Carson want to kick on too.

As for a permenant deal, if the headline read we had agreed season long loan with view to permenant move and he turned out to be rubbish, everyone would have a moan then!!! At least we can see if he makes the grade by having him on loan, fairly cheap. win win for us if it works out tbh!

As much as the media links are fun, I think the right approach has been made keeping cards relatively close to the chest this off-season! Yes it causes moaners on here, but I think clever business is not aired in public!

Clegg: Players in Contract Talks
at 11:55:42

There is sense on both sides about the transfer activity. I think the ambition is there, but the throwing on money at signing players such as Priskin / Leadbitter etc has had to stop due to finances. Very wasteful years under RK.

However, I don't recall Sharp being at PR for contract talks ITFC1981? We never agreed a fee for him, basically because we were priced out of the market. I think it a little harsh to say players 'slipped through the net' when we were not really in the running due fo transfer fees and/or wage demands. I could quite happily offer 15k for a brand new car, but if it's asking price is double that, I can't really claim that I nearly owned it!?!?!?

Chambers Signs for Town
at 17:23:18

Very pleased with this piece of buisness. Putting things in perspective, It is likely Chambers did use the weekend to satisfy his own mind, and more importantly, that of his family. I think we have got a good player with a sensible, grounded head on his shoulders. They are the sort of qualities that are not necessarily seen on a football pitch - Carlos Tevez fiasco for example!!!

Welcome Luke and pat on the back for PJ for clearly putting the time in, and being patient. Clegg and ME likewise. Maybe we can trust in the management for the rest of the summer?

Chambers: I'm Only Talking to One Club
at 09:05:01

I don't think it is naive, as he did not have any intentions of moving on from Forest, therefore did not have to consider uprooting his family. There are plenty of players who have remained at one club/area for their entire careers. Although 8k+ a week should soften the blow ;-)

Town Set to Land Chambers
at 19:51:57

Billlm you do raise some valid points, but I think the dream chasing led us down the proverbial creek before the ME bailout. I for one would love to see more money flooded into ITFC from ME, but completely support the need for financial stability. We are no longer able to gamble. In all honesty I would find a club run like Man City et al so hollow and shameful. The last thing I would want is a load of mercenaries wearing our beloved blue and whites

I think any Leeds offers would have materialised by now. What we do have to offer LC is almost certainly guaranteed first team football. Maybe Forest have locker deposits that he didn't want to lose....?

Chambers Returns to Nottingham
at 10:25:18

Having been a distant observer of this forum for some time, restraining every fibre in my body to not take the plunge and respond to the comments/stories posted...today I feel I have no choice but to participate.
I do not profess to being the most ardent of ITFC supporters in comparison to many of the self-confessed ITFC "experts" and "loyalists" that throw their weight around with words of "wisdom" on a daily basis, but I love my club. My wife sometimes compares my relationship with Ipswich Town as a 'love-affair'. From reading the fickle, negative, ill-timed and unfounded critical comments on this forum, there are many on here that cannot boast the same. I certainly wouldn't speak of my missus in such a quick, ill-tempered manner! And before you say it, my season ticket is loose change in comparison to her costs!!!This is not about who is the right or wrong man at the helm/management/owner of our club, this story is simply about a 26 year old footballer, who is on the verge of making a lifestyle choice, and has asked for more time to consider what he is to do. Of course, there is every chance that he is after more money, or he was not impressed with Clegg/PJ/Evans etc, but do we actually know any of those details? Agents annoy us all, they have ruined most sports, but that is what is to be expected nowadays, so lets not act as if this is anything new. A Bosman means there will be plenty of offers on the table. It isn't as if he is restricted to speaking with one or two clubs as per transfers. Clegg/PJ do not know who they are competing with, so they have to remain realistic.
Maybe there is some truth in people calling for Clegg/PJ being present at the ground during the visit, but does anyone actually know if ME himself was not there? This is something he has done in the past by all accounts!?
As for our illustrious history of a club being banded round as if it entitles us to so much more, we all need to move on. I am proud of what we have achieved, but the more I read on here of people whinging and moaning about players not coming to ITFC and choosing clubs with less heritage, it really cheapens our past achievements and cuts to the core of where we are so wide of the mark. The last time I looked, Notts Forest have a history that competes with us at ole PR, so surely Chambers shouldn't want to leave a bigger club!?!? Leeds are arguably in the same boat!
Best I wrap this up, most of you are probably falling asleep and/or seething and itching to riposte, but I finish with this. I go for a job interview, I meet the management, I see the surroundings, have my role and expectations laid out in front of me, I pass all with flying colours and I am offered my contract. I ask for a little bit more time to ponder my future. I go home, I speak with my family and decide to have a look at what I may be signing up for, and I stumble across a website, where the majority of the people commenting about this new company I may join hate the management, hate the owners and speak only derogatory words about the company...where will my head and heart take me now....?
