| News Comment | Youth Cup Hero Foyo to Join Town in January at 19:56:08
An interesting one as Liam Gibbs apparently switched to Norwich as he considered he didn't have a pathway with us. Would be interesting to know a bit more about the reason for Foyo's switch. Hope he does as well with us as Gibbs appears to be doing at Norwich. |
| News Comment | McKenna Slams Referee Martin at 22:16:11
Apart from the disgracefully disallowed goal there was a clear penalty at the end of the first half when Davis was wiped out just inside the box. The tackle was presumably the reason David had to eventually limp off. |
| News Comment | Simpson Huddersfield Deal Closer at 11:46:41
I am not comfortable with the number of promising youngsters leaving to play for clubs higher up the pyramid. Liam Gibbs is now starting for Norwich in the championship after we pretty much gave him away, not to mention Downes now at West Ham and Dozzel at QPR. Not good business on our part and seems to be part of the ongoing problem that Kieran Dyer resigned over, that there is no way for our best youngsters to progress into the first team. Hopefully KM is addressing this. I think the full damage done by the 'demolition man' is still to be realised. As for Simpson, I haven't seen enough of him to have an opinion on how good he is. Will be gutted if he ends up scoring goals in the championship. |
| News Comment | Nsiala Linked With Fleetwood Loan at 08:12:57
As a tight marking defender who gets in a lot of challenges and blocks he has done a good job for us. His partnership with Wilson sweeping up around him was one of the tightest in the league when they played together. Some people seemed to be unable to move on from a couple of rash tackles Toto made in his first few games for us when he was coming back to fitness. Woolfenden also hits his fair share of misplaced passes but I can see that if we want defenders who bring the ball out from the back then that is not Toto's strength. Re the charlton game, Toto was made the scapegoat again. As has been pointed out. If there is no movement ahead of a central defender, he is going to be in trouble. Good luck Toto. (And I see Burgess as a downgrade) |
| News Comment | Town Linked With Everton Defender Gibson at 15:18:49
The trouble with James Wilson was that due to injuries he only played a quarter of the season both years he was with us. And it was the same when he was with Lincoln. We need payers are going to be fit to play a full season. |
| News Comment | Drinan Joins Leyton Orient at 20:22:16
a little bit of irony that he is going to Orient, the club where Macualey Bonne, now with us, rediscovered his potential. Although then at non league level. Physical forwards generally don't reach their potential until into their 20s (as was the case with Darl Murphy) so it will be interesting to see whether Drinan can progress. Plenty of work rate and some nice touches, but needs to be more of a threat in front of goal. I wish him well. |
| News Comment | Dozzell Deal Done at 10:57:40
I am never comfortable selling talented youngsters to higher divisions. Despite the sceptics on here, Championship clubs will be signing him on the basis of his ability and stats — and not because they are mates with Jason. Players who can open up defences with their passing are rare and potentially go for big money — if it didn't happen here it was more because of the shortcomings ahead of him than his ability or attitude. While he has sometimes lost possession, I suspect that the percentage of lost ball is relatively low as we haven't had a midfielder as willing to take the ball in all situations since Magilton. I feel that the obvious hostily towards him on social media will have made his mind up for him once Cook said everyone was available. |
| News Comment | Dozzell Closing in On QPR Move at 10:44:06
A shame that he came through with so many poor players around him (and particularly ahead of him) meaning we have been unable to capitalise on his passing skills and vision. According to the EADT stats at the end of the season we were (surprisingly) the team with the greatest number of through balls per game — a significant number of which will have come from Dozzell. Imagine how it might have been with a couple of sharp forwards ahead of him. However, despite being the youngest regular player in he team he has received so much negativity that it is now inevitable he will leave. I for one fear we may regret how this has worked out. Good luck at QPR Andre |
| News Comment | Brentford Join Blackburn and QPR in Chase For Dozzell at 23:52:00
As pointed out by beattiesbackpicket, if your game is passing, you can only be as good as the movement of the players ahead of you. The only effective movement over the last year has come from Norwood on the occasions he has been fit. Even Arnold Muhren would have looked rubbish in the Ipswich side over the last year. |
| News Comment | Brentford Join Blackburn and QPR in Chase For Dozzell at 20:57:14
Agreed there are far to few battlers at the moment. If we had a few then Dozzell would be providing the passes to make the side sing. The best teams are made up of ver different but complementary skills. |
| News Comment | Brentford Join Blackburn and QPR in Chase For Dozzell at 20:32:02
Has been one of the youngest players in the side over the past year and has a better touch, vision and range of passes than anyone we have seen at Portman road for years, and always makes himself available to receive a pass. Unfortunately he has had some really poor players around him. Having watched Skuse play sideways for years - and never trying to take control of a game- I will be fairly devastated if he goes. Not surprised there is a frenzy for championship clubs interested. Still has several years of development ahead of him. |
| News Comment | Sears, Wilson, Huws and Nydam Released at 18:31:48
Quite shocked to see Nydam released — unless there are long term worries about his fitness after that injury. He suddenly disappeared from the squad after making a fairly decent substitute appearance. I can understand Wilson being released. He looks good when his fit to play, but has been on the injury list most of this season, as he was last season. And it was the same before that when he was at Lincoln. |
| News Comment | Wilson Wins Player of the Year at 12:07:15
hmm, given that Wilson has been unfit for most of this season, and last season — and when he was at Lincoln — it will be interesting to see whether our player of the year is offered a new contract. |
| News Comment | Bakay: Heritage, Fanbase and Opportunity the Attraction of Town at 10:47:32
hmm, Bakay said : "If he [Cook] wants 4-2-3-1, what are the two, three players that he needs for that formation?" Not wanting to put a dampener on things but it would appear unlikely we are going to get an entire new squad. In my book at least a couple of those players will have to be strikers. |
| News Comment | Jackson: I Need a Goal, Not Just For Me But For the Team at 15:02:41
Crowell blue, if your striker can't control the ball and hold it up, the midfield have got no chance of getting up alongside him . As for running beyond the striker, if your striker's asset his speed, you wouldn't expect to be running beyond him. How many midfielders do you see running ahead of Jamie Vardy? A large part of the last year's problems were that Lambert kept changing the system in the hope of finding one that would suit Jackson without being to the detriment of the rest of the team. |
| News Comment | Jackson: I Need a Goal, Not Just For Me But For the Team at 14:39:02
Sadly I agree with Skip and Chris R. Very fast but that is about it. No spatial awareness of where to run to to maximise his speed, and no control if the ball does come to him. Inevitably the whole team suffers and plays badly when he is in the side. Given the amount we paid for Jackson he probably represents one of the club's worst ever transfer deals. We will be luck to get £100,000 for him now. Thank you Paul Hurst. |
| News Comment | Fleetwood Town 2-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 00:10:01
Feared the worst when the teamsheet showed jackson playing alone up top again (how many time has that been a disaster?) and Skuse back in midfield (after being off the pace when he was last fit a year ago). PC needs to get to grips fast with the who can do what in his squad if we are to have any chance of the playoffs. Dozzell one of the few showing any quality, if PC can find the ball winning energy to play alongside him. Still think if PC makes the right selections we have a chance of the playoffs. Regarding comments about Magilton, he was the one manager that Evans provided with an open cheque book, and he wasn't closets getting us up — which was why he went. |
