I always think that’s where Burley and our team went wrong.
Previously we played neat triangles with players supporting each other, a short pass was always on.
We then acquired a “ match winning star” and seemed to believe we had to pass the ball to him, probably the wrong pass at the wrong time that didn't do him any favours either.
My only criticism of Burley, loved him as a manager and coach.
Do you know what I think we have a better coach now who won’t fall into that trap.
We will need to strengthen but no player will be better than the team. |

I thought we also “gave them” two of their goals. We could have defended better on those occasions.
Our keeper made one really good save and him and Wolfenden denied them a goal.
Some of the losing managers don’t half come out with embarrassing rubbish.

He said one of the goals was a deflection. Failed to mention we hit the bar from a delightful chip, imagine the press if a premiership “star” had tried that?
How was that not a penalty? No where near the ball and took the man out.
Also failed to acknowledge that we could have had 3 more, great goal line clearance by their defender and we spurned two break away goals when it looked easier for the player in possession to play a square pass.
Yes the first 15/20 minutes they were all over us but some of that was not Sunderland’s play we made some poor decisions and gave the ball away in dangerous positions.
We grew into the game, a great confidence booster and the players will realise there is a gulf between the 1st Division and Championship.
I have tried not to be too biased! |

Their season is finished so they will only be playing for pride. Cant see them coming to play open football. Our normal possession football should starve them of the ball. Let's hope we get an early goal and they are demoralised. |

I'm surprised the keeper came that far out of his goal didn't seem that much danger that far out, any attacker would have needed to head it back and we had plenty of defenders.
Easy for me watching the highlights and I was always too afraid to go in goal! |

I am a fan but do I want to see my team embarrassed by Liverpool?
Even more so by Norwich.
Instead of talking such nonsense as to how he would love to face such opposition why doesn't he sort out our defence? We seem to be able to score goals ( look at the table) but our goals against are abysmal.
I'm not saying return to dismal defensive football but please get our defence sorted. |
