Walsham-le-Willows 1-5 Reserves
at 22:59:34

Had a bit of a pre-season feel to it; Ipswich players most accommodating to boys wanting signatures, photos etc. Always going to be a one sided affair. Unfair to have a pop at Walsham, they worked hard, would have benefitted a well run nonleague club very handsomely with the money paid out by fans, and for all those thats say its a meaningless event atleast it seems to be a starting point to getting some connection with what should be our true fanbase in and about suffolk; good to see Ipswich commiting to this cup and any competitive game is better than players sitting out simply picking up wages.

In terms of players...
Loach - took a bit a wack and had knee bandaged in ice, can't see him being on the bench at the weekend.
Hewitt - neat touches, happy to go forward but not overcomplicating things.
Youga - Not afraid to tackle, a little mistimed seemed not quite up to match practice but loved pushing up and overlapping.
Ainsley- composed did simple things well but not needed to be too involved. Quite a voice compared to some.
Moshni - loves attacking the first ball in the air and quite confident in possession, happy to try to play out of the back. Was turned easily on one occasion and clattered the player for a yellow.
Hyam - great to see him score a superb strike; really needs his chance back in the first team once again.
Drury - kept the ball moving well.
Ellington - looked uncomfortable out wide, not the pace or trickery to beat players there.
Jet - an enigma as always. Looks like he's going through the motions and then does something truly impressive. Just seems to be him irrelevant of the level of opponent.
Scotland - his usual self of holding up play, and working hard.
Chopra - one minute strolling around looking a bit disinterested. The only one who had a bit of the big time charlies about being out there. Then comes alive when a goalscoring chance is on a plate for him. The occasional bit of clever movement to show he has class when he wants to. Get him playing in the box and he always has a goal in him.

All the first team coaching staff there plus Clegg etc. Hope the win (albeit against far lesser opposition than they'll face in the Championship) gets all the players of first team level desparate to climb us up from where are still perilously placed in the lague. COYB.

Strong Town Squad Facing Johnson's Walsham
at 21:52:17

My boy is one of the mascots so well up for it.Walsham are making a real effort to make this a good night for all. It's good to see people in the local area excited about seeing ITFC playing locally - could be a good public relations affair if the players mingle and sign autographs etc once the game is done. After the win on saturday it'll be nice to see if the fringe players make a real effort to keep the momentum going and fight for their place as they may well make up the bulk of the first team once the loanees return. Apparently both MM and TC are due to be there. £8 adults £4 concessions. COYB (and Walsham!).

Bennett Only Scholar to Be Offered Contract
at 19:37:57

I guess this is another downside of no genuine reserve football plus the 5 sub rule means there is such a jump from U18s to the first team. Good luck to these boys in finding a new club. Shame they never got an opportunity to be loaned out to see if there was a glimmer of hope in any of these boys.

Town to Sign Hearts Midfielder
at 14:00:46

Has anyone thought this might be the first of a few signings we are going to make and perhaps this one will occur quicker as they don't appear to be haggling or having an agent who is trying to squeeze obscene wages from us. We all know that defenders are a priority (i'm sure Jewell recognises this even more than others on here who want to point out the obvious), and here's hoping we tie a couple down by Tuesday; however we also have a pressing issue of so many players out of contract in the summer so perhaps this is a bit more of a thinking for the longer term rather than just the short term which has been our moans all too often in the past.

In terms of why havent we made any signings yet... some people need to appreciate as much as we love the club it probably is proving to be quite difficult to get people in as players might wish to see who else is coming in for them rather than automatically signing for a team 20th in the championship (and the only ones who probably would jump at coming straight away are those who are offered the big money wages they so desperately chase).

Also, for the 'fans' who think we are just going to sign players straight away it is worth remembering that the most transfers completed by any club in the premiership is 3, and i'm sure they are a more attractive option than us currently! I personally will give anyone a chance to play for this club if they show they have desire etc so i hope others are prepared to give him (or anyone else we do actually capture) a chance. COYB

McCarthy Consulted With Connor Before Making Move
at 20:16:25

Irrespective of how good this guy is or may have the potential to ultimately be, god only knows what it will be doing for ALBs self-confidence as once this guy goes back we'll need to turn back to him to play in goal again. I'd have thought a much more pressing matter is to sort out a RB and CB asap. Big few weeks ahead for the medium term future of our beloved club.

Swindon Want to Keep Murray
at 20:12:31

My worry is who is going to be left at our club next year (and i don't just mean the many season ticket holders who must be having serious thoughts about what is going on). Just over a year or so ago we had Ronan, Connor and Jordan as three up and coming strikers and it now looks highly likely by the end of this year we won't have any of them.

Cardiff Aware of \"Threatened\" Chopra\'s Problems

Billy Sharp needs lots of applause on Saturday - whatever walk of life you're in to lose a son and then be in anything like the right state of mind to put in a performance like this shows he has a lot about him, shame we didnt get him in the summer.
A 10k a week player like him being able to play when faced with this tragedy makes an even bigger mockery of the likes of Tevez at 250k a week not being 'up' to playing proving himself to be an absolute joke in comparison. COYB.

Leadbitter Turns Down Initial Contract Offer
at 20:49:26

As much as it could mean starting all over once again next summer if contract negotiations do drag on; what we have seen in recent times suggests PJ is as good as anyone to bring in players at this level. For all that we were initially gutted to see McAuley and Norris leave, there can't be many people that think Sonko and Bullard (along with Andrews and Collins if we go on to sign them) aren't bringing more to the team and seeing us as more capable team than we have seen for some time.

Also this shows that scouting for capable young players with genuine potential is more important than ever as if we can get a few more in of the vein of Cresswell then atleast we will have some longer term squad stability.

Ultimately, I want to cheer players on who genuinely want to be here. McAuley and Norris have both shown dsepite enhanced pay packets no doubt, that the grass isnt always greener. COYB.

I wonder if Lee Martin picked up tonsilitis when sent to train with the kids. He better watch out as chicken pox is doing the rounds with our kids at the mo.

Jewell: Scotland Showing Right Attitude
at 08:35:51

No mention of a new contract or even talks for him bearing in mind he is in the final year of his deal - looks like Jason will definitely be off at the end of the season; just hope he fires us/supports the front line into getting us into a play off position come the end of the season.

Liddell Joins as Fitness Coach

I would be interested to know what his experience is apart from being one of Paul's mates. I know a manager should pick people to work around him who he has confidence in but if this role is to make a difference i hope he truly is the best person out there for the job.

Jewell Struggling for Ways to Explain Defending
at 23:38:37

I'm guessing PJ is now appreciating the enormity of the task, as much as people are saying we need defenders to be fair we also needed players who could score after last year so that's why Chopra and JET have been secured and hopefully why can get something out of Ellignton at some stage. Complete overhaul was needed and is underway, and apart from early question marks over Bowyers fitness it is difficult to say that all the other players we have brought in aren't all showing something (don't feel we can truly judge Ellington as he hasnt played enough to be sure what he has left).
The club/management/fans are making lots of noises about the need to sign defenders but we keep chasing the same sort of players as other teams so why don't we seriously look into league 1 or overseas as it seems most of our targets are CB fringe players from the Premiership. Cresswell has shown that we don't always need to look at the Prem for quality players - young and hungry players are out there.
Smith has to be taken out of the firing line for Saturday as he will be ruined long term if he puts in one more bad performance at the moment. Now seems so short sigted to have not atleast offered Troy Brown equal terms as last year as he would've been far more effective cover than what we have at the moment and i can't imagine his wages needed to be cleared off the wage bill that desparetly. Coventry Game Moves for Sky
at 12:58:27

As much as it annoys me too as it will disrupt another evening and mean that my 7 year old can't go either, hopefully it means that the club will receive a bit more money that they will use to continue to reinvest in the squad. I know we all look at it from an individual perspective but surely it will benefit the club - i just hope we don't put on another dismal performance as i can only remember the cardiff game as the last team we played well for the cameras in the league (i'm not counting the Leicester match!).

Bury Town 2-3 Town XI
at 22:40:56

Just got back from the game.

In terms of players performances... totally right about Peters as he really should've shone in a game like this, he often chose to just throw balls forward rather than attack with any vigour; i think he will really need to up his game or will continue to be out of picture.
Civelli seems like the injury has totally done him for confidence and probably needs to move on as is continuing to offer little as was often seen in his cameo 2nd half performances towards the end of last season.
Hyam is the most likely to bridge the gap from reserves to first team as just has more about himself on the pitch. Other players around him have the confidence to play through him a lot.
Hourihane looks neat and tidy on the ball but as I saw from him in reserve games last year can often drift in and out of games. He should really have stepped up his level of performances now he is in his second year.
Cresswell certainly has a bit of an edge to him, perhaps tried a bit too hard tonight, and would not weaken the side if put in ahead of Kennedy.
Cropper was someone who had more presence than others and could prove to be a good third choice keeper option for the season.
Whight was prepared to compete and was committed in the challenge but he may well struggle with the physicality of championship defenders and will need to be used cautiously so that we don't have fans destroy him at home games as can happen to young players like what we saw with Eastman last year.
Murray played as expected i.e. hanging on the last shoulder a lot, being sloppily all too often caught offside, but then has the very useful habit of scoring a goal. Can't imagine he won't be much more than coming off the bench.
All in all, i'm only judging one preseason friendly. The players were certainly up for it and surprised Bury just how much they were leaving their boot into tackles.

What is a concern is there is a bit of a gulf between who we can call upon if we were hit with an injury crisis, especially at the back. It now seems shortsighted to have not offered Brown atleast equal terms so he would've stayed on; he certainly would be more ready than what we have at the moment to call upon.

I know a lot of us have been calling for it but definitely need to have more strength in depth. Seeing Notts Forest and Leicester stockpile players we have still a lot to do to be a serious threat. Jewell certainly has been chasing players, just now need to land some hungry/determined players who want to play rather than pick up an easy wage.

Wickham Back at Town to Say Goodbyes
at 17:12:39

So an 18 year old has the respect for the Town to pop back in whilst our former 'leader' was cooking up deals to leave us for a long time- of course he has to settle his future but you'd have thought he'd have the decency to show some recognition by even giving Ipswich the briefist metion of acknowledgement; after all, we had only paid him handsomely over the past few years/gave him the honour of captaincy/stood by him when he did that idiotic handcuff celebration etc.
Connor and Norris - leagues apart both in class and ability.

Wickham Sunderland Move Confirmed
at 23:27:05

A brave decision by the club to sell - but probably fair to say the right one. I think some of us were getting carried away with the 10M+ that was being banded around in the media. If you look at the players that Connor was unable to get in front of at the recent Euro U21s i.e. Delfonso, Sturridge, Welbeck, none of them have been touted to be worth as much and have had the opportunity to experience far more Prem football to date. Also worth remembering that before he signed his most recent contract some of us were thinking he might only be sold at tribunal rates...i hope people remember that by him extending his contract has enabled us to get 8M in before they have a pop that he has been greedy etc

Disappointed to see him go as was beginning to believe he was going to score lots more goals next season. There will be some pressure on Jewell to sign the right replacement who will get off to a flier, and just hope his replacement/s are given some time before the all too familiar slating starts before some players have even been given a true chance.

Also this is now going to put Clegg under pressure to truly earn his money and 'seal some deals' at a time when we are going to see clubs ramp up their asking prices based on them knowing we have this amount of money hopefully at our disposal.

Come on you Blues (and good luck Connor)

Ellington Delighted to Be Reunited With Jewell
at 17:29:49

Definitely need to give him a chance... especially those 'fans' who have been going on about us not signing anyone to date. There aren't many players (except for one or two players signed possibly in desparation by Keane) who we have brought in recently that have previously been seven figure forwards, and you have to give people an opportunity to shine. We may all live in hope of getting the Dos Santos and Bullards in but they i) cost ridiculous sums in terms of transfer fees, and ii) mean we resort to just chucking the money around rather than giving some considered thought to who actually might
make a difference to the Town. Now just keep the coming Clegg/PJ.

Kirkland, Brown and Coppinger Linked
at 11:25:56

In my opinion...

An injury free Kirkland would be the commanding type of keeper we have been longing for. Brown certainly has both experience and an edge that our midfield has lacked for some time - we might not want to have a team of players like this but one or two might help us cope with the demands of the Championship (just think what Derry could've added this year); on to many occasions in recent years I have seen powerful teams come rampaging through our midfield that then results in our defence having to fire fight far too often. Coppinger is someone who might not only score goals for us from midfield (which we came to rely on from Norris) but also has a bit more craft than some of our current midfield and at the same time would not be on crazy money. If any of these players genuinely want to come here I am all to happy to see them play for Town, and we must move on from crying over the departure of certain players who ultimately had desires to be elsewhere.
