Not the nasty party, at all
at 10:02 8 Oct 2021

Won't happen.

Coffey is my local MP. The masochists round here vote for her every time. I can only think its because they ENJOY being treated with utter contempt.

Insulate Britain - wow

I agree, watching the videos today of the protesters being forcibly removed by drivers to try and let an ambulance through, it's not going to be long until someone is angry enough to just plow through or someone is seriously hurt.

Unusual drinks
at 10:14 23 Sep 2021

One of the guys in my local used to have about a quarter of a pint of neat orange squash in a pint glass then filled it up with Worthingtons (or any similar bitter) instead of water.

He put it down next to my Worthy's once and I had a swig of it by mistake. It was a very acquired taste

Tell me about it. I said I was voting Labour a while back and got called a "paedo enabler" and communist by my Tory supporting family members.

Sending Kids Back to School - What have you done
at 08:51 2 Jun 2020

No, one of our children is in year 6. Won't be going back until we deem it safe for him and my wife.

The school actually recommended to us not to send him back as they don't agree with opening on June 1st.

Im working from home which is fine and my wife is (was) self employed but is currently unable to work as she is shielding.

I do worry about them though. As someone said, at first they loved it and now the novelty has worn off big time.

How are we all doing? In three words.
at 12:44 30 May 2020

Worried
Frustrated
Anxious

I'm worried as my wife is shielding so it's very stressful. I'm currently working from home but I think it's getting to the point where work won't allow me too anymore and even though they'll be covid secure. I am not comfortable going back and don't want to do anything that will risk my wife getting ill, but feel like I don't have much choice.

I'm frustrated at the government. It's too soon to lift these restrictions, people are acting like it's not an issue and I don't understand it. Boris had this, he was in intensive care, he knows how bad it is yet it seems like the economy is worth more than peoples lives.

I've had a falling out with my wife's side of the family. They are mostly arch tories and after I put a rant about how this is ending too early and how Cummings broke the rules on Facebook (not something I'd normally do but I was annoyed and looking for support I guess) I've been called all sorts (even accused of supporting pedophiles if I vote Labour as they turned a blind eye to Saville!) and been "outed" by them as a lockdown breaker myself when I went out to get some paracetamol.

To top it off my wife is petrified, the kids are going a bit stir crazy and the whole thing is making me anxious. Which is nice when you have anxiety anyway.

Days after schools re-opened in South Korea - they are closed again
at 17:33 29 May 2020

We're not sending ours back whether the schools are open or not. We'll decide what's safe for our children and us, not some untrustworthy government.

I think this whole easing of the lockdown is a massive mistake. Can see the numbers going up. Hope people remember come election time

So six people can now meet outside
at 15:52 29 May 2020

We're not going out. My wife is shielding so don't want to put her at risk at all.

If I do have to go out for any reason I will be sensible and stay away from people, but it sucks I'm having to rely on others to be sensible too.

Our children aren't going back to school on 1st June either, no way.

Anyone written to their Tory MP?
at 15:26 27 May 2020

I've always said this. Hence why I have voted different parties at different elections, local and national at different times. Tribalism is pointless.

I would write to my MP but the last time I did she told me she was too busy in parliament and referred me back to the organisation I was complaining about.

Maybe they all had exceptional childcare issues? You're allowed to travel and go out and about if you have. Also if they've driven there? Well they're only testing their eyes.

All the best, hope she has a speedy recovery.

With regards to shopping, we are being extra careful as my wife is highly vulnerable. We are having it delivered but still disinfecting all packaging and thouroughly washing our hands after touching it.

Lockdown acceptors / struggling obeyers
at 09:54 4 May 2020

Was sceptical at first but accepting now.

The lockdown means for me, working from home for the first time ever. We are spending more time together as a family, living life more slowly, cooking from scratch almost every day now.

Im losing weight as with the limits on going out exercise I'm making sure it counts and have started running again

Luckily I can work from home (despite my company previously saying it was impossible) on full pay which is something I much prefer and would like to continue. We have saved money on fuel and I get to spend time with the family

Obvioulsy don't like being unable to go anywhere and see friends and family, and hopefully can keep up the running and cooking more once this is all back to normal but the working from home is a game changer for me and I'd be gutted if I have to commute to an office everyday again for no reason.

What petty things are now beginning to get on your nerves?
at 19:34 24 Apr 2020

The flipping village green police. My wife and kids were out for a walk the other day and got yelled at and threatened by the chap over the way for walking near, not on or through, but near the children's play area.

That and the dirty looks we get as we go on our daily walk as a family. One guy even walked past further than 2m and kept stopping and looking back at us in disbelief.

Lunacy to expect any lockdown restrictions should be lifted
at 14:36 9 Apr 2020

This is what I fear. It sounds so stupod but I am struggling a bit mentally with the lockdown, and if they have some sort of test for immunity or something we'll never pass until a vaccine is developed. We simply can't get the virus to get immunity from it. My wife is highly vulnerable and has been told she'd only have a 15% chance of beating it. Not a risk I want to take.

Just wish everything would go back to normal.

Slightly different tangent on 'open world' but what about No Man's Sky, or even Elite Dangerous?

Good post

I agree with the measures in place, but what you say in your last paragraph did briefly cross my mind.

Agree with Guthrum above though it would be hugely impractical and expensive (not to mention the social unrest it would eventually cause)
