Give credit when credit is due. We have all seen some shocking defending this season but tonight Cresswell and Sonko worked particularly hard (Smith was caught out at times but C & S always cleared it up).Good team performance.
Good 3 points. Now need to win on Saturday to give us breathing space from relegation.
Can't see anything happening last minute at ITFC. Jewell does sound genuinely disappointed. He knows that Smith and Delaney aren't strong enough and Sonko is inconsistent.
Need a fair few loan signings. 2 centrebacks and a rightback will be fine.
Should have made a late swoop for the Hearts team. They have a few players there who given the opportunity would have come.

Solid acquisition and will give us steel to our midfield at a good price. Hes under 30, not a loan signing (so cares if the club does well), has scored goals at a high level (which person said Celtic would struggle in the Championship??) and is an automatic replacement for Andrews (who we ain't goona get).

This guy plays in the 2nd tier of Scottish Football. He's not even going to get promoted this season (Ross County are ahead all ready and have 3 games in hand). Yes, he's 19, but we just GAVE AWAY Rory McKeown for nothing and he is now a REGULAR in the Kilmarnock side (who are Scottish Premiership). He's played nearly every game since joining them and has been in the Scottish Premier League team of the week 6 times. He is considered one of the brightest prospects in Scottish football and he's 18.
Explain the logic Jewell. We give away a more talented player and then pay 300,000 for a player less talented in the league below in the SAME POSITION.

CENTRAL Defender showed around the club shop. YOUNG (which is good). Name= Chris Tingay. Looked him up but can find literally nothing about him. He was released by Chesterfield in 2010 but don't think he's played since.
If Paul Jewell trusts in his ability, I'm willing to wait and see. Must be better than Donko, Delaney and Smith, surely?

a lot of the boo-boys can't even be bothered to post. this would be the perfect opportunity to do "a bit of boo-ing" but they can't even be bothered because of the pitiful state of our club. they just want paul jewell out and they have said their bit.
the situation has become grave and all true supporters know that. 7 straight defeats and some of the worst results in our history as a football club. some true hammerings and spectacular defeats. we play the best we can (we did today) and still lose (not a good sign) against a team that is also in great trouble.
we have to get 4 points from our next 2 games just to stay in this battle against relegation. the "easiest" game to get 3 points from is our next one, Barnsley. sorry, but i just can't see it happening. call me negative all you want but after seeing so many horrendous capitulations this season i can't see how we can win this.
the big question is, when do we say enough is enough? when we are 6 points clear at the bottom? when is it time to say pj has had his chance?
i have seen some comical defensive displays under keane but IMHO the comical displays by pj's team have been worse. every supporter at this club knew when pj came in that we had a VERY bad defence. we needed to concentrate on this area. we should have thrown money at it to get 4 completely new, young, hungry and ambitious players in (of the Cresswell ilk). 4 Cresswells would have satisfied most of us. Instead we have collins (loan and new baby+family to think of, i've liked him to be fair), sonko (often injured), ingi (hmmmm...). when pj came in the impression we got was that he would build a team similar to our country neighbours up the road. instead we have a bunch of ex-premier league players who struggle to play beyond 65 mins every game. how many games do we lose in the last 20 mins? adam le fondre and players like that should have been brought in. maybe a good offer for trotter and ambrose would have been worthwhile or even a major investment in youth talent up front (rhodes for example). instead we have the duke. cresswell looks great in left midfield when he goes forward, give him that opportuity by making a major offer for dan harding from southampton (massive talent).
the reason why people are negative here is clear. we have lost 7 on the trot and most of us can't see how we are going to get out of this mess. most of the boo-boys are too depressed to even bother posting, says it all really |

you are right scunnyblue. getting rid of PJ now isn't a good move. we are undoubtedly involved in a relegation battle and getting rid of our leader would be ludicrous right now.
PJ needs to sort out the shambles which is our defence. Collins and Cresswell need more help. I'm pleased with Sonko, but the guy is playing 1 out of 3. Ingimaarson, Smith, Delaney, Ainsley etc aren't good enough for this level. Rightback has been needed for years. Its not just the defence, they wouldn't be under so much incredible pressure if it wasn't for the lack of effort from midfield. most of our midfielders (bar Carson) appear to run out of gas after about 25 mins. we are then playing with a crocked midfield for 65 minutes which puts huge pressure on our already lightweight defence.
still need change of personnel at the club. a bright, lively, enthusiastic 18 year old forward with something to prove. sub replacements for carson and martin so they aren't constantly having to do all the running (bench isn't strong enough)- both about 18/19. hyam more in the team. strong, expensive centreback to go alongside collins regularly and sign collins permanently before he ends up at wolves. young rightback with something to prove (U21 International or something like that). think andrews/bowyer/bullard etc have a lot to give, but they can't be expected to do all the running. andrews plays well for ireland because others do the running for him, he then gets into the right positions and wallop- in the back of the net.
we shouldn't be so heavily reliant on our goalkeepers game after game to pull off miraculous save followed by miraculous save.its asking too much.
bye bye ellington (the duke no longer), leadbitter (should get something for him), smith (shot of confidence), delaney (makes O'dea look world class), kennedy (tries hard enough but time for League 1), priskin (never done it for us, new challenge).
whoever our defence coach is should be sacked.
doubt we will get these changes. if we don't we are looking at a battle against relegation which i think we will win (we will stay up, but just). as i have said before i believe there are 3 teams worse than us in this division right now.
The game against watford is a big game. don't underestimate how important this could be come end of season. i believe that this is one of the 3 teams that are worse than us. 3 points, however its done, needed urgently. 3 points to them could be disastrous for the club we love.

6 losses on the trot, the sixth being a total thrashing. Its no wonder that Clegg has spoken up to publicly defend his manager.
Love the way people here automatically think it's Jewells fault. He has brought in Chopra, Stockdale, JET, Bullard, Bowyer, Cresswell. Now...lets be honest. How many of us would have signed these players PRE-SEASON (Without Hindsight..)?? The answer is most of us.
The rot goes MUCH deeper than Jewell. There is seriously something wrong with our club and unless you work at PR we simply don't know what it is.Getting rid of Jewell is no good.
On another subject, our goal difference is looking really, really bad. May well prove crucial later in the season. We ONLY NEED 3 TEAMS TO BE WORSE THAN US. Only 3, but GD may be significant. When we lose, we need to put up a fight and make sure its not 5/6-0..where's the spirit?
Not even going to talk about our defence. About as good as being in a gorilla suit on an ice skating ring. Appalling. I would be ashamed if I was one of our defenders. Clowns. |
