| News Comment | Town Announce £4.3m Pre-Tax Loss at 20:24:28
Unfortunately we're like a tyre with a slow puncture - in an evermore competitive and affluent Championship, we have no momentum, no catalyst to success, and the slow deflation continues year on year. It needs a radical change to turn it round. A new, younger, more creative manager who will put an attacking, passing style on the park. We have to attract crowds back with style, even if we don't win every week...! |
| News Comment | Town 2-1 QPR - Match Report at 12:22:27
Great to get the win..., but we were awful first half. Always in the air, never to feet, down the channel, turn the full back around and try and pick up scraps. So negative, it's as if we're defending a 2 goal lead from the off. 2nd half better, more to feet, switching play, attacking space, doubling up in the wide areas, getting crosses in. But why did we not play like that from the first whistle?! Come on Town - 2 home wins from 10, and we're in 6th place! If we can play some football at home and improve there, we can still push upwards from here. |
| News Comment | New St George's Park Role for Sheepshanks at 21:47:53
David Sheepshanks was the man who put his faith in George Burley and their 5 year plan took us up. No - one bemoaned him then. Fantastic first Premier season, we probably all got a bit carried away and set our expectations too high too quickly. Confidence drained out of the team in our 2nd Premier season and despite a great post Christmas recovery, there were some fine, fine margins that took us down at the worst possible time what with the ITV Digital collapse and the introduction of transfer windows which totally changed the economics of football. These things were circumstances Sheepshanks had to adapt to as best as he humanly could and were not issues of his making. I maintain alot of respect for him and wish him well. |
| News Comment | McCarthy: Two Poor Goals But Performance Outstanding at 16:28:27
Exactly Cheshire Blue, I was gutted to throw the 3 pts away, but we'd have possibly taken a point at kick off, and the forward progress compared to 12 months ago is clear. More attacking options, Berra to come back in, money to spend, and when you get a kick in the teeth like that first game, it puts everyone on their guard from here on in. I think we'll be tougher when protecting a lead in future. |
| News Comment | Dozzell: Play-Off Derbies the Biggest Ever at 22:46:29
Carrot Road Christmas 1992..., first local derby for 6 years, in the new Premier League, they were TOP!! We were 5th..., what an occasion!!! Kiwomya flicked in for 1 - 0, late Neil Thomson thumper for 2 - 0...!!! Dozzell celebrating with fans(incl. his brother!) on the pitch with a blue and white bobble hat on!! What a game! One of the best derbies ever. We can top that boys!!!! |
| News Comment | Town 3-0 Charlton - Match Report at 23:47:41
Consistent opinion here which I agree with - not at our best, so still coming away with a 3 - 0 win is a great outcome! Dids so unlucky striking woodwork 3 times, had the look of a man that it just wasn't going to happen for him tonight, then he finally tucks away a great finish. Well deserved, hopefully that will set him off on a run now. Berra MOTM, all the back 4 superb. Southampton will be fun..., Derby is huge!! |
| News Comment | McCarthy: Dream Start at 17:05:18
Well planned, hard earnt, quality finishes! Magnificent job to MM, TC and all the boys. Feet on the ground now, let's keep grafting, and see what the rest can do about stopping us! COYB!! |
| News Comment | Town 0-1 Norwich City at 14:45:53
Very poor. Lucky it was only 1 - 0. Looked like what we are, low budget, mid-table mediocrity. Does ME actually have promotion ambitions any more? We need to buy quality. Norwich better man for man by a mile. |
| News Comment | Beckham at Playford Road at 14:18:01
Cultured gent that he is, Becks was heard quoting Shakespeare: (Son) "What number shirt shall wear Dad...?" (Dad) "Wear four out there Romeo...!" |
| News Comment | Collected Kit Arrives in Zambia at 21:56:24
Fantastic - did some coaching in Kenya last summer and took some kit over - the enthusiasm for English football in Africa is unbelievable. A life changing experience. Well done all involved, done ITFC proud. |
| News Comment | McCarthy: Delighted With Players at 21:23:40
Fair enough Ian Marshall, I did not think Brighton would slip up. Maybe there's twists and turns yet. Best thing about today was Burnley clinching promotion, Saturday will be congas, Mexican waves, and hangovers while we go about our business. |
| News Comment | McCarthy: Delighted With Players at 19:49:57
Frustrating to be so near yet so far..., but the only thing we've been near for the last few years since Keane decimated us is League 1. You do sense Mick has pulled a good, honest group together on a shoestring, no big time Charlies, and that next season we can be even stronger in this league mounting a serious promotion challenge. |
| News Comment | McCarthy: Hitting the Bar Was the Turning Point at 19:05:17
Brighton's run-in is so straight forward, can't see them dropping points. Today was the big chance. It's very fine margins that have cost us..., but I suspect that's it for us now. All credit to MM for the massive improvement this season on a shoestring - we can all be optimistic of a genuine promotion push next season, not been able to have that sort of hope going into a season for 10 years... |
| News Comment | McCarthy: Get Behind Hyam at 20:33:55
Gotta love Big Mick! I'm still optimistic bearing in mind the last few seasons at Christmas we've been dragging ourselves away from relegation places and a 2nd half of the season recovery sees us rise significantly in the table. If MM can bring that improvement again, we're in for an exciting finish to the season. Despite only 1pt today and the Hyam debate, there's no doubting we're going in the right direction. COYB!! |
| News Comment | McCarthy: Championship Already Shaping Up to Be Bonkers at 09:45:13
I watched the game with a Reading fan and I turned to him on 40 mins to say my only concern was we weren't further ahead as we deserved at least 2 - 0 for our first half superiority, and he agreed. Low and behold we found ourselves going in 1 - 1 which was a travesty. Reading did come much more into it in the 2nd half, but we created clear cut chances, Tabb could have had a 2nd, McGoldrick came very close twice, one fantastic save from the Reading keeper kept them in it. Mings was the weak link, we missed Cressy. But on balance I entirely agree with MM, and have not been as optimistic about a season since Big Fat Joe... |
| News Comment | Town's New Kit Leaked at 23:29:56
Wow! So surprised, I think these 2 kits are stunning! Best for a long, long time. Best manager for a long time too, I've not been more optimistic about next season since the days of Big Fat Joe! |
| News Comment | New Kits Unveiled Later This Month at 23:00:33
I have 2 x unique 'Kit vote' shirts..., one that became the 2001/2002 Prem TXU home shirt, but as it was a kit vote sample, has 'Greene King'on it..., and also a blue with white and black trim shirt sample for the following season, with TXU as sponsor, that did not get voted in so very unique, it looks almost Everton-esque. Kit votes are great as it gives the fans power of choice, plus throws up a few unique samples such as these...! |
