No Bristol City Move for Carson
at 20:23:06

I second LondonBen. I have faith in Josh Carson.

A bit discouraging that noted developers and recognisers of young talent like MM and TC tried to offload him, but I hope they'll make the effort and persist.

He could easily turn out to be worth the effort.

Milne: Town Not Up for Sale
at 17:19:24

Is it just me, or does “Unsolicited interest has been expressed … but none have involved any serious offer or any attempt to follow up” just translate from diplomatic director-speak to “He's open to offers”? Also, “the club is not up for sale” merely denies it is expressly on the market but doesn't deny he's trying to offload.

U18s Lose to Palace
at 07:40:40

So when Bryan Klug said that he thought there'd be three youngsters ready for the first team by the end of the season, was he talking about current reserves (eg, Lawrence, Ainsley, White) or actual U18s that might be offered a deal? If so, is it fairly obvious who it might be (eg, Winter, Marriott, The Mighty Thor)?

Lengthy Deals for New Duo
at 06:40:33

I definitely got the impression Holland has got a job on MM's team. If that's the case he might not have been announced because Matt's got umpteen media/other contracts to sort out or smooth over before it's official.

I'm not sure why Burnhamblue if fretting that MM has walked before getting sacked — surely better than cynically hanging on for the payoff, or stupidly clinging on like a scouse limpet like PJ. There was just NO knocking him off that rock.

Mohsni on Target as Cardiff Hit for Six
at 18:52:22

Good grief no! It's her from the darts at Christmas who upset the English player because of all the racket she caused at the tournament.

He was playing a Belgian (who's name escapes me), and everytime he finished throwing the camera cut to his girlfriend (pictured). TV coverage always cuts to the wife/family/girlfriend of the player concerned. The already somewhat raucous darting crowd went mad whenever her face was flashed up the tv screens followed by loud boos when it cut away to the next darts player taking his turn.

The Belgian guy won and the English player claimed to have been put off by all the racket and the booing.

I was so taken by her pretty face on the Sky news story the next day I put it up as my avatar and haven't shifted it since. Very soothing, I find!

AndrewPC:

Nice review of the match and quite encouraging!

I hope Wight was in central defence to give him some rounded defensive experience plus to give October (I take it he was playing left back???) some game time.

I wasn't at the Huddersfield game (listened to it on iplayer), but I was personally the most pleased about Ainsley's performance at right back. If he can continue to improve and Hewitt turns out to be a player then that's right back sorted.

Time for Ipswich to Appoint a Professor of the Defensive Arts
at 08:18:41

Talking of Russell Osman overseeing the odd defensive session, we are having to increase the number of youth coaches to qualify for cat 2 status. As far as I'm aware it's not against the law for a coach officially assigned to the academy to take the odd senior session. Just make one of the new coaches (academy or otherwise) a defensive specialist and make sure there's a couple of defensive sessions a week.

As it is, a fundamental part of training should be small pitch based overloading where an outnumbered attack is drilled against the defense and vice versa - the defenders being drilled in double cover and so on. Either the coaching is so useless they aren't even doing this or the coaching is so useless they can't do it properly. Either way the coaching does appear pretty useless from a defensive perspective (unless it's just our defenders...).

Good report! Cheers.

Missed the game — meant to go. Completely forgot when I got home from work — went and sat in the back garden in the sun reading a book and drinking beer.

Shame I wasn't there; though the example of the previous season's fixture might have had a subconscious effect…
