This is going to get me downvoted to high-heaven, but what the hell....
The hypocrisy shown in this thread is astounding. Do I think Frimmers mostly posts absolute nonsense? Yes, because he does. Do I think what he posts has any malicious intent? No I do not.
He doesn't rate Burns, for whatever reason, and he never tires of telling us about it. Is it tedious and ultimately a poor take? Yes. Does he get shouted down endlessly, yes he does, and rightly so.
This is a football forum for football discussion. Everyone has opinions on who is good/bad/the devil incarnate. It is effectively the life blood of this forum (along with crisps and cheese). This kind of discussion would be *impossible* to have if we all worried about what someone's feelings would be if they read our posts... especially when those posts are made in the heat of the moment.
I do feel for Burns and his family, but it is very easy to focus on the negative when you go looking for feedback, and gloss over the positive takes which often-times vastly outnumber the negatives (I have been there myself).
Should FB take on board that his actions are negatively effecting the family? Yes, probably, and I believe he has said as much himself. But this pile on is ugly.
Can everyone that is piling on say that they always hold themselves to the same standard? What about Ladapo, I did not see any issues with the pile on there? Lambert? Also did not see any problems with that. Hell, David Diamond pretty much made a meme of calling Jordan Spence 'crap' on the Blue Monday podcast. Was that ok?
Yes, we should think about how what we say may impact others, but our lives can't be spent tiptoeing around our opinions. If it comes to light that what you are saying has a negative impact, then absolutely take that on board and adjust accordingly. |

Well, no. I don't. You should have ended your point at "You can't change the past". Anything beyond that becomes a purely philosophical question, as I said before.
The fact remains, we would have had the same ball number as Maidstone.
The fact also remains that you cannot change the past.
Anything beyond that is philosphical.

I mean... the number that was allocated to Maidstone was the same as would have been allocated to us. Ergo, we would have drawn the same.
Unless you are looking at it from a more philosophical angle, then sure... I guess we will never know. |

It's my understanding that the ball numbers remain the same, so we would have drawn the same as Maidstone did.
Think they deserved a bit better than what they got, but luck of the draw, innit. |

I changed career in my mid 30s (and again in early 40s, but that was less of a dramatic shift).
The best advice I can give is be prepared to step backwards in order to move forwards.
I trained myself up in a specific IT sector. Whilst I had the qualifications to take a higher job in the new sector, I lacked the experience, hence rarely making it to the interview stage.
I started applying for jobs which could utilize my new skills, but were more junior than I would normally have liked to aim for (and subsequently had a lower salary). Doing this I managed to breeze into a new job. A job from which I was promoted from in 6 months, and managing the team within a year.
I'm not saying it would be the same for everyone, but the extra experience/responsibility that I carried (outside of my new skillset) saw me rapidly overtake others at the same level I joined at.
I have zero regrets and much prefer my life now than doing the job I hated before I made the switch. |

Yeah, I get that.
In fairness, I always buy at the 'flagship' end of the market, and I buy my phone outright and run it for years. My last phone was a Samsung Galaxy S7 (released + bought in 2016) and I have, just last week, upgraded to an S23, which I also intend to run for years (don't get me started on all the extra crap that they put in them now and charge an absolute fortune for. If I wanted a decent camera, I'd buy a DSLR).
To be able to buy a phone to run for years, I have to buy at the top end of the market to make it a financially viable proposition. The *only* high-end phone that I could have bought, with a headphone jack and suitable specs, was the Asus Zenfone 10, but the screen on that was too small for me, and it was even more above my budget than the S23.
It's an annoying and entirely unnecessary situation. I have had to buy a USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adaptor, which will also end up as e-waste one day. Meanwhile, my wired headphones are still going strong many, many years later.

This is a huge bug bear of mine, but I'll try to avoid going into a long winded rant about it.
There is 0 reason to remove headphone jacks from phones. It is purely done to sell you more e-waste that you cannot change the batteries of and will eventually end up in landfill.
You will be told 'aha! There is choice! You can buy phones with a headphone jack'. And this is true, if you don't mind buying an underpowered PoS that will also end up in landfill in 2 years.
Meanwhile, they are all selling their amazing e-credentials with their solar powered data centers.
It is BS pure and simple.
Believe it or not, this is my incredibly edited down version of this rant.

I had issues for the Leeds game (could not get it to work, no matter what I did), but haven't had that issue since. I guess there are still some bugs being ironed out (not ideal, for sure!) |
