Simpson: I Was Fearing Town Move For Carr
at 14:18:14

Sounds like a good young lad to bring on board.

Unfortunately Town have been hit like this more times than I can remember. A big PL club comes along and scoops up the most promising talent. You of course want them to do well, but if they do too well they are gone.

MD Milne Backing Remain
at 13:48:18

To further HarryS H point above, if we are unable to bring in as many foreign players due to additional regulation/paperwork etc, would this not encourage English teams to invest more in English players? Just an out loud thought but given it's a football forum thought I would give it a go. :)

Mick's Contempt for the FA Cup is an Insult to Fans
at 08:55:18

As mentioned by Durham above, I have enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts on this. Isn't it interesting how fans of the same club, who want the same thing for the club (success) perceive things in different ways.

If only we were all football mangers eh!!!!! :)

Mick's Contempt for the FA Cup is an Insult to Fans
at 09:38:50

Jolly, re: your comment about being a bookkeeper. As fans we can all WANT Ipswich to win every match, I mean why wouldn't we? However for many years now football has all become about money.

Some facts:

- We are what £80 million in debt, and being bankrolled by ME. Without him where would we be? (i.e. His money is keeping us afloat)
- As of this/next season it's something like the best part of £100 million for being in the Premier League.
- The FA cup, although I love it would give us what financially?

So although I AM a fan and want to win everything the raw fact is that we just can't afford such luxuries, IMO we have to chase the PL dream we everything we have only then can we start balancing the books / paying off our debt. If not being involved in the cups gives us just a 5% better chance of making the play-offs (so 3 games from the PL), I for one will take it.

The above comments noting how being in the cup and winning the cup would be a great experience for the fans are true, but feelings will not keep Ipswich afloat, money will. So am I a fan or a bookkeeper? I'm a fan in my heart, but the reality is I know money talks and I want Ipswich back in the PL.

Mick's Contempt for the FA Cup is an Insult to Fans
at 12:16:03

Although I get your points and understand your position and arguments I don't agree.

MM is interested in the league, has stated as much and his actions reflect that statement. Will us being knocked out of the cups early aid? A good question and a fair point, but in my mind the fact is, it won't hurt our chances whereas injuries and extra match time in cups MAY.

Would Mick's attitude change regarding the cups if we were a premier league established side? No idea, only Mick can tell you that.

Additionally how do we know that this directive has not come from ME? He may have told Mick not to worry about the cups and to focus on the league, pure speculation granted but none the less a possibility.

Finally am I upset we are out of the cup and so losing a tie against Bournemouth that I think we would have likely lost, no.

Again I can see the argument you are making and understand why others would agree, me personally im happy for us to give the league as much focus as we can, we were never going to win the cup anyway.

Milne: Nobody's for Sale
at 13:29:42

I have just read through all the posts above and am a bit dismayed at how negative a lot of people are. Don't get me wrong I would love to see some £1million + players come in through the door and improve some of our weaker areas in the team. I would also love this to result in us being on par with Borough and the "top" teams in our league.

But the above withstanding is no one else happy with what MM is doing here? I mean he comes in turns around what is basically a relegation battling side and puts us back amongst the top 6-8, did we not spend quite a few seasons under Burley on the brink (in and about the play-offs). At which point I don't recall too many complaints apart from the few that kept on about Sheepshanks needing to spend more etc, I remember that time being a fairly good time for town.

The unfortunate reality is we are not owned by a sheik, we do not have a world dominating brand that we can rely on for income and our current owner is being careful with his money (who can blame him), he has brought in a manager who in my opinion is doing a damn fine job with the tools he has.

Would he like some big expensive players? Course he would, I think if you asked MM that he would probably call you a four letter word for stating the obvious, but based in the market in which he can trade (sub 100k players) I think he has build a pretty damn good team. Will we make the prem? Odds are against us I would say. Is it impossible? No, plenty of teams have made it with squads that perhaps shouldn't have. Is it good being back in this kind of place again (playoff contenders) you bet your rear it is and long may it continue (unless we do beat the odds).

Come on people enjoy what we have, don't concentrate on what we don't, we have been in a far worse place (a.k.a pre-MM era).

McCarthy: Full-Backs Have Blossomed
at 12:46:34

For me the most impressive thing about the Wigan game was the hunger, with the exception of the last 15-20 minutes we were in their face, every player was chasing down the opponent this in itself made it very hard for Wigan to play a passing game.

I am over the moon to see players such and Mings etc improve and bring more to the team, but for me MM seems to have instilled some hunger back in to the team which always gives you a chance even if you are an underdog in a match.

Oh, How I Miss Last Season — Notes for Watford
at 11:23:06

I do love the statement "For a team like ours who seemingly cannot hit a barn boor with a banjo, having to face a goalie on form like Gerkin won't make things easier for us."

Lets hope that our "barn door" proves too hard to hit on Saturday and that McG puts a couple in. I'm always weary when a bogey side visits but I believe this is a good opportunity to put that stigma to bed.

McCarthy Has Decisions to Make Ahead of Forest Trip
at 14:42:01

I would love us to come away with 3pts, unfortunately I think it will be a real big ask against a good Forest side. I'm hoping for a win but think a loss by one goal will be the result.

Town Charged By FA
at 09:46:44

I don't agree with this surrounding the referee, but Martin was very unlucky and Smith was well outside the area. I guess when decisions like this keep going against you, you will tend to surround the ref. Maybe another good example of why we need a forth/fifth official with a TV to review these things.

Burnley\'s Marney on Jewell\'s Wish List
at 08:39:12

I think town should just release a statement "In your face Ryan". Purely because his gamble to get more dough out of us has not paid off, now he his trying to make it look like that there was no chance of a deal, in that case why put a price tag on the guy?

Wright Set for MLS Trial

Well I hope his career ends well and he can get a club, as for us I think Fulop is a better keeper. Wright/Murphy I think is a fairly close pairing however given Murphy would be on a lot less in the wage department I would stick with him.

Arsenal Linked With Wickham Move
at 12:54:16

Firstly, I would not want to see him leave the club, frankly with out Connor we have little to no striking power.

HOWEVER..........If (and thats a big if) the reports of £8mill are true, can we afford to turn this down? By this I mean even with Connor in the team we will struggle to get promoted (unless we can buy some more players, and ship the rubbish out). So that means A) Connor with have a cracking season and given that at the end of next season he will only have 1yr on his contract could go for less? (I would hope not but....) B) Connor for whatever reason have an average/bad season and we have missed out on £8mill.

Now as I have stated I don't want to see Connor go because without him we are dead in the water, however I think a lot of people on here are posting with their heart and not their head. £8mill is a good offer, my heart just hopes we don't accept it.

Southend Game Off?
at 09:25:43

Despite the impact for town (missing a pre-season game), I think the bad side of the story here is Southend only have 9 players. It seems that so many clubs are barely surviving at the moment. I can see quite a few going under if a shake up of the regulations governing football are not changed.
