Jewell Reveals Millwall Relegation Worries
at 10:51:27

No I think he's talking about the run of 46 or 47 consecutive games from the end of the bad run at the start of last season through to the start of the bad run in this season in which we'd picked up 72 points.

Jewell Reveals Millwall Relegation Worries

Always enjoy your blogs Chris, cheers for this. One point I would definitely make, when Keane found the spine of his team in late 2009, and was able to call regularly on the services of McAuley, Delaney, Leadbitter and Norris, with some assistance from the emerging Wickham, our ability to pick up points was none too bad. In fact we carried on with that points gathering for the first ten games or so of this season too, but we definitely fell apart when we lost McAuley & Norris, Delaney was coming back from injury etc and confidence dipped and our terrible run started. It's a different proposition now, but thankfully at the moment (and touch wood it continues) the spine of the team seems stronger than I can remember; Fulop, Mac, Del, Leadbitter, Norris, Bullard, Wickham and Priskin are all making decent contributions. I think the play offs are a tough ask, but I think we'll move back above 1.6 pts per game on average and we might even possibly push on to higher. Leeds, currently in 6th, have averaged 1.63 pts per game all season, but their recent form has been lower at around 1.37.

Extrapolating current form trends means Forest should be champions, with QPR in 2nd. Cardiff and Norwich should make top 6 unless they really fall foul of injuries or loss of form (and yes I live in hope), and then it's really 2 from Millwall, Watford, Leicester, Leeds and Swansea. Of those you'd really fancy Leicester at this point.

Which leaves just one place left and a very tough ask for our side to push their points gathering up to the required level to make up the gap, I don't think Millwall or Watford will maintain their current runs, and I think Leeds will pull back to 1.5 pts per game or so and Swansea will continue much as they are around the 1.6 level. Those two should fight it out for the last place in the play offs around the 72-73 points total with possibly a late-run from Burnley to add some pressure. We'll obviously see if I'm anywhere near right at feeling 72 points is the minimum that will be required for 6th, or if you sticking your neck out around the 70 points level is more accurate?!

Personally I think we'll be up in the higher 60's - enough to provide some encouragement and hope for next season, but too little to make this one anything more than another season of transition/transformation.

Cotterill: Norris Wants to Join Pompey
at 23:25:00

So what happened between november - when this story was published - http://www.twtd.co.uk/news.php?storyid=17429 and now?

Just a guess, but whatever was offered wasn't enough to satisfy norris and/or his agent and they think they can get better terms by either going elsewhere, or at least looking like they are going elsewhere.

Nice blog. Interesting reading a few months later. Town have got it to 1.64 points per game average over a period of 28 consecutive games. In that period, forest have got 3 more points than us, and only newcastle and west brom have done better than us or forest.
And yes, the whole season counts of course, but by and large, 1.64 points over a 28 game period to now is nothing to be sniffed at considering what went on at the start of the season.

I disagree naa - It's too easy to say Roy is no good in the transfer market - every manager gets a few wrong. Keane reacted to the woeful start to the season by bringing in Leadbitter, Rosenior and Edwards. Edwards hasn't overly impressed but bringing those 3 in did help to turn things around. He also took action on the goalkeeping front and dropped other players. If you ignore August completely, and still include the bulk of the winless streak, we'd be 11th in the table and 5 points behind cardif in the play off places. And all that with a terrible scoring record as well. September to now might not have been a purists dream, and even the most pro-keane of supporters won't have liked the fare on offer at all times, but with a squad that was quickly found to have either the wrong attitude or lacking the talent for success, Keane did make necessary changes in order to get points on the board.
On the subject of transfers - it's not just down to Keane to identify talent - and he alone cannot bring it in to the club - every good club has a team of people looking to identify players they can bring in. And then of course they need to want to come, and arrange personal terms as well that fit within the wage structure of the club - ie lots of other people are involved in getting players in. You might even include supporters - because their reputation for singing or whinging, moaning or cheering, clapping or booing players could surely factor into a players thinking.

Palace: Money Factor in John Loan
at 15:19:55

yeah we should take advantage of their plight as others did to us. Pity Ambrose didn't perform when he was here on loan, or pity that others didn't bring out the best in him....
