| News Comment | Town Make £18.17m Loss at 11:34:16
Bobby Bell - I pretty much share your views. Because things have gone so well on the pitch the clubs value has increased by a vast amount. Long may it continue! Its come to something that having got used to withdrawn wingers, false 9s, inverted full backs, sweeper keepers, 4-4-2, etc. we now need to understand high finance and profit and sustainability rules just to be able to follow a football team. Oh for the days of a kickabout on Bourne Park. |
| News Comment | Town Make £18.17m Loss at 19:35:26
I don't think I am too worried. The investors money is more at risk than ours. Gamechanger has far exceeded their expectations up to this point and given their financial backer is a pension fund it would make sense for them to preserve their original investment by either selling a share in the club or spreading the risk. If we were to go up we would need to invest in some quality players (subject to the Fairplay restrictions) and seems a good way to finance that. Obviously the new investors would expect to see a return for their money which means the club will have to continue it recent successful path. Much depends upon the ability and integrity of the new investors - I know nothing about them apart from the post on TWTD. I live in hope. At least it isn't Mike Ashton! |
| News Comment | McCarthy's Centre-Half Search Continues at 23:31:32
I seem to remember a famous Town manager playing several teenage centre backs. Wark, Beattie, Peddelty, spring to mind. Butcher wasn't very old either but he started at left back. In those days we had to make do with what we had - it seemed to work OK. |
| News Comment | McCarthy Again Linked With Ireland Return at 11:10:13
I agree with Harry. Method and discipline were sadly lacking when MM took over. Any flair disappeared over 10 years ago and we may never see it again unless the academy actively encourages it. I have much sympathy with Retro's point of view but optimism (probably unwarranted) still kicks in from time to time. |
| News Comment | McCarthy: Deal With What You've Got at 09:32:16
It's a solid start. MM inspires much more confidence that his two predecessors. It's a results business - lets see where we get to this year. |
| News Comment | Chopra Still Planning to Stay at Town at 23:09:45
Chopra cannot be that stupid. Yes he can take his salary for the next year but what does he do after that? if he doesn't play somewhere and show he can still perform no-one will pay him at all. The real question is "can he still perform?" If he can, he can do it for us, on loan or transferred out, it matters little. But if he can't or thinks he can't then he can only take what he can get - his final years salary. So what he does next will tell everyone what they need to know. No performance - no job. I doubt he has the talent to earn much outside football. I'm just sad that Keane thought he was the answer to our needs - when it comes to gross incompetence you don't have to look too far. I'm sure we wasted a pot of money there. |
| News Comment | McCarthy: I Didn't Enjoy That at 10:28:22
Sorry that Mick didn't enjoy his lap of appreciation - he should have done as he achieved something that a lot of us thought couldn't happen. We were as close to being dead and buried as it gets when he took over and the playoffs were just a dream for the most wildly over optimistic. To get to 60 points is an excellent result from the starting point. Of course this has raised expectations for next season but that's normal for every club in the land. I echo what many have already said. If we can keep it all together and get in 2 or 3 key players we could have much more to celebrate next year. But it's all IF and we all know what can happen. I'm just thankful we aren't Wolves. |
| News Comment | Clegg: Mid-Table an Underachievement at 10:39:36
And what is Mr Clegg's assessment of why we underachieved? This is important, if we don't know why, then how can we hope to change? This isn't an invitation to contributors to post their opinion as that has been done since last season began - I want to know what the club management's assessment is. |
| News Comment | Town Closer on Kourouma at 10:35:29
This guy is 19. Comes from French Guinea (is that Guinea or Guinea-Bissau?). He's been with 3 european clubs already (Why do we need to pay all three? surely each has to pay the former?). Why is he always on the move, who owns him? What's the story, anyone shed any light here? |
| News Comment | Kenny Latest Keeper Link at 21:44:48
I would rather have Guzan. Still its good to know we are showing an interest. Hope we go for Nelsen as well. |
| News Comment | Hyam Amongst the Candidates to Replace Leadbitter at 14:51:41
Who plays probably depends upon where Jewell sees our present situation. Do we still have a relegation risk? Have we still got an outside chance of the play-offs? Can he experiment because there is little to play for. Lawrence and Stevenson should get a fair go when nothing left to play for - two games hence I suspect. For now we have to go to Watford and do everything to win. Bowyer & Hyam for me. |
| News Comment | Chopra: No Bets in Four Months at 11:25:53
It's a difficult addicition to conquer so well done to him. Unfortunately the temptation is always there. All these adverts on TV don't help but just bear in mind the millions in profits that are funding the likes of Stoke City. Whenever you bet you bet against ITFC. The best way to view these ads is that they are an invitation to Johnny Foreigner to give their money to this country - there may be no betting tax but there is still profits tax. |
| News Comment | Bennett Only Scholar to Be Offered Contract at 11:17:45
I agree its very sad we have to let these players go but a realistic decision has to be taken at some point. There are few examples where we have let people go at this point and they have come back to haunt us. We handed out contracts like confetti in Keanes day but no one has come through to the first team except Carson. Of the people who left after contract only Trotter looks likely to have been useful to us. |
| News Comment | Jewell Not Getting Carried Away at 17:46:32
Its a sound well balanced assessment but it does look like we have turned a corner and we do have a very promising line up if it can be kept together. I like the smile on PJ's face thats also a big improvement. I'll go for cautiously optimistic and we mustn't worry too much if the odd result goes the wrong way. There are some good teams in the championship but suddenly we are beating one or two of them. Cardiff is a very important match. |
| News Comment | Andrews Says No to Leeds at 12:25:16
Why are people moaning about 451? If its done right, and PJ has used it very effectively before, it could get us the results we need. This is a tough league and we can't afford to be naive. 1-0 wins will do. Sometimes when you get ahead other teams lose their discipline and more goals come. |
| News Comment | Bullard Linked With Canaries at 14:33:26
Norwich will have the same problem as everyone else. How much can they risk on a player with fitness problems. Hull will let him go for nothing but who pays JB's contract, £4.5 million over two years? Can Norwich afford that? Will Hull contribute? Big gambles all round. |
