Lambert or Big Mick would have killed to have this squad of players and I have little doubt would not have lost a match yet with them. Cook might be fine as the main man but he has a very very inexperienced supporting coaching team and without his right hand man he is lost at sea. Marcus Evans et al are highly successful businessmen. If they fail, they won't be the first to fail in the world of football. However, the way they are handling the club seems to be far more sensibly than previous Boards.
Although Marcus Evans now owns 'our club' this doesn't give us as fans the divine right to demand crazy spending on players that gets us into a bad financial position. Stability breeds success and I for one hope that Evans is invested in Town for the long term.
Jason Scotland is a very decent signing - I was disappointed he went to Wigan last close season as I thought he would fit well with us. He scores goals regularly (unlike Chopra who seems to go in bursts) and hopefully will end up with partnerships with Wickham and Priskin that will be the envy of the Championship.
If we get anymore players in before the window closes all well and good, but with a couple of back ups for the squad as loan players I genuinely believe we have a good chance of promotion this season.

We have to remember that Marcus Evans has not become a multi millionaire through doing bad deals. Clegg is part of his inner sanctum and will be of the same ilk.
Evans and co - like it or not - closed the deal to bring in Keane and that would have seemed unlikely previously.
So, I suggest we trust them to bring in the players Keane thinks we needs. It's only 21 August, so no need to panic yet.

Whatever happens we have to have a proper pre-season. It felt like we were having our pre-season after the start of this season as the players didn't know each other.
And we mustn't make panic buys which with hindsight Priskin must have been.

My view is that he's done better than a lot of people give him credit for. He scored a perfectly good goal against Peterborough and has been unsettling defences since he has been here. He has done more than Priskin and he cost us £1.7 million. Plus he can head a ball (which Stead can't). And he has settled in well in the dressing room which is never easy as a loan player!
Interesting that Palace aren't fussed about him playing in the Cup. |
