Murphy might have put in a good cross that was knocked down for someone else to score. I'm sure you know an assist is only credited to the last player to pass it before the scorer. Doesn't mean Murphy hasn't been influencial to a build up to the goal - but they don't keep stats on that.
Murphy scored 4 goals and only created 3 assists. However he would be useful but not at a big price. The trouble is most players prefer to warm the bench for more money. Also PJ said "but I think if we wanted to bring him here next season they would want a fee." He thinks - why not contact Celtic and ask? They could spring a surprise and want to offload him cheaply - no good making assumptions!
Stats don't lie. These are from www.football-league.co.uk
2009/10 Shots on goal 91 (2nd out of all Ipswich players) goals 3 (1 pen). Assists 8 (1st out of all Ipswich team)
2010/11 Shots on goal 98 (1st out of all Ipswich players) goals 6 (5 pens). Assists 5 (2nd out of all Ipswich team)
2011/12 Shots on goal 64 (3rd out of all Ipswich players) goals 3 (1 pen). Assists 2 (joint 5th out of all Ipswich team).
The most telling statistic is - last season more shots on goal than ANY other player yet only one goal from open play and that was a BIG deflection v Middlesbrough in that 3-3 home draw!!!! Not to mention very poor free kicks and corners. Played well at start and end of Ipswich career (good assists that year) but a poor investment overall. I'd be surprised if he set the world alight with his next team.
Would be two excellent additions. Just the sort of lower division signings that Norwich have been making.
Wide man Richie has 9 goals (2 crackers yesterday), 10 assists and more shots at goal than any other Swindon player. Attacking right back Caddis has 3 goals and 3 assists.
Jewell's team have done their homework and now we'll have to see if Swindon are tempted by the money. However with a strong promotion challenge, FA Cup run and only one match away from JP Trophy final at Wembley I think they might stay.
Andrews has a big zero on the assists chart but 9 goals at this stage of the season for a midfielder is excellent. He also has more shots on goal than anyone else including strikers. I feel he is a good influence on the team.
Why have a meeting on Monday and not real discuss or offer something or more likely ME and Clegg were frightened off by unrealistic demands?
I hope he is sensible about contract demands and signs in Jan.
I think with Tommy it was a confidence thing - like so many others. He did wonderfully with the unbeaten New Zealand team at the 2010 World Cup then established himself last season when Town had that good start to Keane's last season.
Ingimarsson has look a bit slow and lacking since his return from the previous injury and at least Tommy would give balance being left footed. PJ says he's working very well in training but needs games. It seems the occassional 'behind closed doors' affairs will not really get all these fringe players match fit so it's a bit of a problem.
I'd take a punt on Tommy. He is likely to want to prove a point to manager and fans and earn a new contract. Worth a risk surely PJ?
tractorblue99 I don't think this will affect him on Saturday as he's being playing really well of late anyway with this court case hanging over him. He may be more worried about his twins although they are in safe hands. I know how good Addenbrokes are.
What I don't understand is how a footballer with quite a bit of time on his hands can forget to re-new his insurance. The high profile nature of this case is a warning to all especially 'well known' individuals.
Sentence about right. Why clog up prisons for this sort of offence?
Let's hope he pays the club and supporters back with some A1 performances for the rest of the season.
Both Delaney and Smith enjoyed some solid games last season next to McAuley. Yes he had his own rocky patches but mostly he was a strong player who held our defence together. His absence is the biggest factor in this dreadful run of 4 defeats. Ingimarsson I thought looked solid in the Wolves friendly and obviously made a difference at Bristol City but it seems the confidence of the team is now shot to pieces.
8 new signings lots of money spent and we seem to be going backwards fast. The formation changes match to match and there is a massive job getting this team motivated and organised. Who would want to sign after watching that?
The best football since the faceless Evans took over was when Jim was in charge.
I just couldn't watch the second half on Sky it was just so awful. Dark weeks ahead.
If you look at the Football League site last season's stats show Coppinger up well. 7 goals 10 assists (7 from Edwards was our hightest) and 2nd in shots on goal marginally behind Billy Sharp. Improve the bid.
Let's just wait to see what actually happens. Rumours are rife but not always reliable.
I would like Norris to stay, however I agree with people's view of his effectiveness especially when it comes to killer passes and general creativity. He has only had 2 assists all season. His goals to shots ratio is excellent however. Compare this to Grant Shootbetter! Site below has interesting statistics.
cats_whiskers - I couldn't agree more. I hate Sky and will never invest in it.
Mungo - I think it is very sad the BBC aren't continuing their coverage. They are doing a very good job. It is easy to see the Football League Programme by recording it or watching on iplayer or you can pick highlights by individual club online. You don't have to stay up 'til midnight. Duh!
Tiredness yes. Hull didn't play midweek and another factor was that Wickham wasn't quite the same after his knock in the 2nd half.
Fantastic to see entertaining, positive football and almost no hit and hope any more. Jewell is preparing the way for a proper promotion push next season. Surely the crowds should come flocking back very soon.
In today's Guardian 'The Secret Footballer ' in the Sports section as part of a piece he wrote about what makes a good manager:
"Players want a manager to be consistent and honest. Nobody wants to sit on the sidelines watching, but an explanation as to why you are not in the team.......Players will respect the manager for pulling them aside even if they don't agree with the decision. Man-management skills like this send out signals to the players; they keep everybody united and, as a result, extract the absolute best from a squad."
Jewell has the attributes - we all know someone who didn't!
It sounds as if his agent was stiring it with Portsmouth.
This needs to sorted out asap. It's clear he wants to stay and surely Jewell has now seen his worth. Top scorer with 9 goals let alone his other contibutions and excellent work rate and attitude.
