Looking Ahead: 2015/16 Season - Where Do We Need to Strengthen?
at 13:04:45

Not sure sticking McGoldrick in midfield is the answer to our problems - his passing is hardly the best aspect of his game whilst his defensive work-rate doesn't make me think Mick will want in. He's great at holding up the play, shifting the ball on to Murphy, making space and squeezing off a shot - he's an archetypal number 10 and I don't really see a way to integrate him and Sears in one side without losing something from either.

If both are still here next season, though, then we'll have options on the bench should we hit a quagmire in a game. I think this season is perhaps still too early for Benyu so I'd like to see a goalscoring midfielder in, but our lack of squad depth cost us this season and having options like McGoldrick or Sears/Benyu/Anderson to bring off the bench can only be an asset.

Please let's get someone more dynamic than McLean though...

Goals From Midfield

Relaxing of FFP rules a) won't happen and b) will achieve nothing - if they relax for us then they relax for everyone else, and we've got a lot less spending power than other teams in the Championship who'll simply outbid us.

Sako's supposedly off to Villa and you can bet that none of the top eight who've missed out this season will sell their finest who stay in the Championship to a rival. We'll have better luck looking for young talents in League 1, Bournemouth style, or using Mick's loan skill.

If we can fight off competitors for Dele Alli next year or Pritchard fails to get a look in at Spurs, you can bet they'll be available for loan. Our midfield next year might just depend on Mauricio Pochettino - not sure how to feel about that...

The Consolations of Philosophy

Thanks all, really appreciate it.

WeWereZombies, glad you appreciated/noticed the reference - I should point out that when you're 3-1 down to Blackburn it can at times feel like a prison, where you've got no choice but to watch and suffer. And after all, Saturday is somewhat looming on the horizon right now... Then again, given that come Saturday I will be at Portman Road and not in a Roman jail I suppose I should feel grateful...
