It feels appropriate that after about 10 years of following this forum to get a little more involved as this season is new territory for me as a town fan.... I too feel that the changes are so significant that it all feels a little strange, I also have a view that the youth foundation under MM with the likes of Dozzell, Nydam, Downes etc have shown the potential to be amazing players and don't seem to be at the front of decisions or attention. (this is only from what I see in the press) .However these players being in the background and not drawing competitive awareness isn't a bad thing until they are truly ready. I also admit that I'm pony at fantasy football so I have a level of trust with a proven manager with a plot and plan. Also all the things I might associate with ME, reckless isn't one of them..
Can it be possible to fly against the idea of recruiting a proven championship level manager or ex-prem player and recruiting the championship elites and premiership loans to win promotion? The idea of finding lower league stars and harder working ethics and tactics seem more circumstantial than ideal. Only time will tell, however it feels like its worth the gamble after being in this division so long and trying with promotion managers (but without the budgets that are never likely to come our way), this years bizarre world cup highlighted the benefit of hard work and team work over 'super stars'.
Its fine lines for the success of the top 6, one team always seems to make it on the 'team work ethics ' over the out and out talent and we are certainly in that camp.
I'm pretty patient but feel that after 10-15 games we will have a better idea if the gamble looks like it might pay off.. its going to be a fascinating season, it could be a master stroke, it certainly feels more underdog Ipswich town coming together than many previous seasons and with a hell of a lot more commitment to the cause!
