Wigan Athletic 1-2 Town
at 22:47:16

So many positives tonight and slowly putting ourselves in a decent position where we might not necessarily have to play catch up all season. You know you must be doing a few things right when other teams don't want to play you.

I understand those of you who still want to see us playing better (who on here wouldn't) but try and enjoy nights like tonight ... I really hope people wouldn't still be grumbling about our style of play if it took us to the play offs, regardless of whether we won them or not

McCarthy Will Take Care With Bishop
at 12:02:56

You can't compare football back then with what it is now. The game is more professional and these players are now athletes. They cover so much more ground and the training sessions consequently have to be all the more vigorous as well. I accept that the medical treatment of these players will have also improved.

Take rugby as a good example ... How many of the international players from over 20 years ago would survive the brutal games that are played by the huge players of today?

Collison Training With Town

Well said BlueMachines. Glad MM and TC did their best to coach nouble up to this point and equally delighted that Mick's a strong enough manager to accept it hasn't worked and move on.

Striker Sammon Joins On Loan
at 16:55:44

Not a signing to take your breath away but a good back up for murphy. People complain about the squad being too small and then they moan when we sign someone. If we signed someone amazing on loan there'd even be a few who would moan that they were taking the place of our permanent players.

We will definitely be bringing in a centre mid (hopefully creative) on loan. MM has repeatedly talked about prem sides waiting to sort out their squads. I know the season has already started but a little patience cos I think it's just around the corner

McCarthy: No Surprises in The Championship
at 15:06:15

Football is tougher off the ball ... So saying he didn't touch the ball (though it could be considered a legitimate criticism) doesn't mean he didn't have to chase the ball and hence tire (IMO too) quickly

McCarthy: No Change of Approach Despite Cresswell Cash
at 19:15:03

Woah fellas! Lets all calm down and not bicker and snipe at one another ... I'd suggest that anyone on this site is a 'true' Ipswich fan through and through. Sadly its probably been a long time since we had any 'glory seeking' supporters.

I understand that not everyone is going to have the same opinion on things. For the record I think it is incredibly early for anyone to have any strong opinions on MM transfer dealings. I agree that the wage budget should be down on last year (currently) but this makes me excited!!! The signings we've made already make us much stronger (addition of pace) imo. And although signing on fees and agent fees have to be taken into account, I'd guess we've got not one or two but possibly multiple signings (including loans) on the way which would give us the squad depth we lacked last year!!!

These signings still have several weeks to be made! If, and only if, no one is brought in before the end of the transfer window will I be disappointed to the extent of others who have posted.

McCarthy Delighted to See Other Side of Taylor
at 13:47:22

Like many have done before me I would like to reiterate what some fans are expecting of Mick. This is my first post and I read TWTD religiously every day, every comment to try and glean extra information about our team. I am not fortunate enough to live anywhere near Ipswich (I've only ever been to Portman Rd once) and therefore have to be satisfied with a few away games a season. I am also only in my twenties and therefore can't claim to have experienced our rich history and achievements. I don't have to pay the extortionate amounts of money some of you do to follow the team and I understand that my viewpoint may well be different if I did.

However in my eyes these are the facts:
1. Ipswich were absolutely DIRE before Mick McCarthy
2. Mick saved us from a near impossible position
3. We are now roughly a top 10 team
4. This has been achieved with little money (since when did we get fee agent players of the calibre of McG, SEB, Berra, Hunt etc etc)
5. Don't judge his dealings with the youngsters while they are still here!!! Next year marriot and hewitt could be back in the first team ... hold judgement until we actually lose them and they make it elsewhere a la jordan rhodes
6. To get promoted you have to be one of the three best teams in the division - If Mick fails this season it is NOT a failure. If he fails next year it is NOT a failure. With clubs coming down from the prem with cash, getting promoted is nigh on impossible.

Please lets give Mick time. I don't mean 1-2 years. I mean 4-5 or more! Let him develop a squad that is completely his own. Where he has time to make a few purchases a season and invest the cash slowly rather than in one panic window. As I got older supporting town I realised that winning cups and leagues were dreams to aspire to. When it comes to promotion, lets keep buying a ticket (be in and around the top 6) and one year it'll be our year.
