I met with Phil Hoadley Saturday evening, anyone remember him?
at 15:45 28 Mar 2022

Spent a wonderful evening with Phil and Mandy on Saturday evening recalling old football stories from the 70's and 80's. Phil is 70 and started as an apprentice with Palace in 1966 where he made his debut as Palace's youngest ever player, moved to Orient in 71, captained and scored in the 2-1 win over Chelsea in the 1977-78 FA Cup Qtr final before losing to Arsenal 3-0 in the semi's, the rest we know.. He remembers Ipswich's game at Millwall and the violence that erupted, didnt surprise him one bit as Orient were used to it as local rivals with Millwall and West Ham.

He let himself down though with a move to Norwich where in 1978 he doubled his Orient salary from £100 to the princely sum of £200 a week. Those were indeed the days.

A very humorous lovely guy, passionate about his football.Played alongside some greats of the 60's, 70's and 80's not least George Best too. Mentioned his friendship with Clive Woods and how much respect he had for the Town team that beat Arsenal in 78. Remembers the ill feeling between the players in local derby's, mentioned he and Paul Mariner even got involved in a punch up in the tunnel before one game!!!

Asked him what he thought of Norwich these days and his response was "bloody awful" no creativity and no desire. Like some ex pro's ran a pub for a few years after injury forced him to retire, used to love the Derby day banter with a fair Town fans he has as friends.

He grew up in Battersea and supported Fulham, one of his favourite players none other than Bobby Robson.

Had loads of stories mentioned that he was great friends with Laurie Cunningham and how racism existed in the dressing room very badly in the 70's let alone in the stands.Mentioned his fond memories of Mick Mills who he highly regarded, hard tackling Alan Brazil in what was a behind the scenes friendly between Ipswich and Norwich, I wasn't aware they had such behind the scenes games between Town and Norwich. A Fascinating insight into yesterdays game.

Can’t wait to drive through Norwich with my new plate
at 23:12 28 Dec 2021

Inspired by a guy years ago who I saw at a Swindon away game driving a silver Mercedes with the reg plate A1TFC , I waited years for Town plates to come up at DVLA. Bid for S81TFC but it got to silly money. DEV1L reached nearly half a million. Decided to go for this plate, lots of thumbs up driving the A12, A14 even the A47, maybe not in Norwich though….
