Bruce Confirms Duo Given Permission to Talk to Town But Nyron Says No
Bruce Confirms Duo Given Permission to Talk to Town But Nyron Says No
Thursday, 27th Aug 2009 11:12

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that midfielder Carlos Edwards will join team-mate Grant Leadbitter for talks with Town. However, Bruce says he is unaware of any current Town interest in Nyron Nosworthy and Daryl Murphy.

Bruce says he has consented to the duo talking to Blues boss Roy Keane: "We have given both players permission to go and speak with Roy. We'll see what develops after that."

Reports in the North-East say that while a fee has been agreed for Leadbitter, talks between the clubs are still ongoing regarding Edwards but with a deal close.

Yesterday, Edwards and Leadbitter were reported to be two players in a quadruple £7 million bid which would also have seen Daryl Murphy and Nyron Nosworthy join Town, but Bruce dismissed any ongoing discussions regarding the latter pair.

In any case, Nosworthy’s agent Uben Gray appears to have ruled out his player moving to Suffolk, saying that the defender won’t be dropping down a division: "No disrespect to Ipswich, or any Championship side, but at this point in his career, that is not a move Nyron will look for.”

Did he No? Or No No No? Just a No might mean hes thinking about it. Hes the one I want most.

And I quote : Nosworthy's agent Uben Gray appears to have ruled out his player moving to Suffolk, saying that the defender won't be dropping down a division: "No disrespect to Ipswich, or any Championship side, but at this point in his career, that is not a move Nyron will look for.” Not only is this arrogant but also Looks like Keane doesn't have the pulling power that some people thought. I see Leadbitter come and possibly one other but thats it!

Out of the 4 players reported, I would most like us to sign the 2 players given permission anyway, think they would both do job for us, & would definately improve our poor start. We need another striker, lets hope Roy's on the case with that too.

Its understandable that Nosworthy doesn't want to come, you can't slate him for it nor can you slate Steve Bruce for that comment - in fact I think what he said is spot on.

Would have liked to see a solid CB like Nosworthy come but the defence will naturally get better with a good midfield in front of it.

If I had to choose between the pairing of Edwards and Leadbitter to come or Nosworthy and Murphy, it would definitely be this one!

Why should a premiership player be classed as "arrogant" because he doesn't want to drop down a division - it's not arrogant it's sensible. Keane doesn't have great pulling power - look at who he brought in at Sunderland for the truth of that

There is no evidence anywhere that RK actually wanted Nosworthy, it was just newspaper speculation and now we are talking about him refusing to come. He might not have even been approached.

Little_e: Never said the player was arrogant, the statement was, hence why quoted it. The player is in his right to stay in premiership, but he has to look at were he is going, he needs to go to a team thats certian not to go down in-order for him to forefill his career ambitions.

what does everyone think of balkenstein...

It's amazing that we are still looking for a striker after we sold "6 goals so far" Rhodes. I'd love to know what the issue with Rhodes was. Both Keane and Magilton both made little comments about issues surrounding Rhodes that the fans were not aware of. Is he an alien??

Lomas - balkenstein is awful, Never rated him and never seen him play well. His marking to very slack. Always the long ball.

Keep Bruce as captain and put Mcauley back with him.

magilton should of never made him captain, to much pressure for a new signing to be made captain.

Hasn't Bruce previously been quoted as saying Murphy has had talks with Town? There seems to be a lot of mis-quoting going on.

As a Sunderland fan, I will be sad to see Leadbitter go. He is a good solid pro, hard working and a pretty good player. Also, he is a local lad. Edwards is a good player too. You lads will get 2 pretty good players if they sign. Noz needs to stay up here but you lot can have Murphy !!!!

lomas and portman oz,for starters we dont have a player called Balkenstein, its Balkestein, why people "rave" about him is his huge heart and desire to play for our club.He is a diamond in the rough, and being young will develop into a truly great defender, given time and SUPPORT.
thats why people rate him.....
if it were that simple to get an experienced CB at a cheap price, who was prepared to drop down a division, every championship, league 1 etc side would be after them.
thats why we have to be patient with our youngsters, and in time they will be the experienced CB's we are looking out for now

as I said before - even if he (r.k.) get us promoted I'll never forgive selling Rhodes. He's gonna make millions for Huddersfield in a year or two. not a shame - disgrace! now go back and pay 2 mills for him to come back

mate what game to do you watch ? diamond in the rough? jog on mate, hes crap and so predictable, time? we havent got decades !!!!!!! all he does is cost us goals and we cant have that, just pumps the ball to walters everytime its a joke, doesnt have to be a cheap price idiot, loan as well, and he has no desire at all, the only reason why he isnt being dropped is because we havent got any cover at all, he would do a job in league 1 thats it, stop looking through blue tinted glasses and look at the real world, KEANOOOO

Why oh why do most of us spend all of our time bitching about this and that. Everyone wanted JM out and they got it. We all wanted a high profile name manager and got, yet we still moan.

Are fans really wanted to judge Keane after only 5 games this season? That is ludicrous!! When he won his first two games in charge at the end of last season, people were calling him the messiah. How fickle we have all become.

Remember when Keane took over from Quinn at Sunderland, they were bottom of the division and he won the league that year. If we are still in this position after 10 games, then I agree we should worry. For now, we should all get behind the team and the manager.

The only way is up!

Since Roy Keane took over at Ipswich, I have been following events closely at Portman Road. I think that Keano is buying some good honest footballers from Sunderland. I particularly don't want to see 3 of those 4 players leave Sunderland. They may not get regular games in the Premiership this year but I would keep them as squad players. But if all (or any) of them leave, they will go with the Sunderland fans best wishes and they will always get a great reception if they ever come back as opposing players. I don't really rate Murphy too highly.

As for Ipswich, I sincerely hope that they get their act together and climb the table. I think Ipswich are a good club and most neutrals would like to see them do better than they have been doing. I am not sure about Keane though. I think if there is no improvement in team fortunes by the end of September, he will be off. He quit at Sunderland and will quit again. Fortunately, he left Sunderland in a better state than when he arrived. I only hope he does the same for Ipswich.
