Garvan: I Need to Knuckle Down
Garvan: I Need to Knuckle Down
Monday, 14th Sep 2009 11:55

Midfielder Owen Garvan says he is determined to change Roy Keane’s mind and get himself back in the Town manager’s plans. Garvan has been left out of the Blues squad since being subbed at half-time during the defeat at West Brom last month.

Speaking to an Irish paper after he had skippered the Republic of Ireland’s U21 side to a 1-1 draw in Estonia last week, Garvan said: ”Every player at the club has chatted to the manager. At this moment in time I’m not really in the squad or in his plans.

“That’s down to me to knuckle down and show that I deserve to play in the Ipswich first team.

“I was surprised that he made that decision, in that I want to play in the first team and have been there for the last couple of seasons. I want to keep my place.

“It’s frustrating that I wasn’t in the squad for the last one or two games. That’s football, you’ve got to deal with things and get on with it and that’s what I’m doing.

“He’s the main man. People can say this, that or the other, but if one man doesn’t like you you’re going to struggle at a football club. I’ve got to do well in training and show what I can do and hopefully change his mind.”

He's been caught coasting & thinking mid table is OK. Find another club Garv, you've blown it here.

I like what he's saying. Exactly the right attitude needed to turn his form around.

Some people need to remember this is a guy who is still only 21! He may have been around forever but he was a 16 year old kid when he came in. Must be tough being away from home at 16. Let's give him some time to get his sh*t together this season.

makes no difference how old he is ....he is slow , lacks energy and is dare I say it very average . Overrated and not as good as some think he is !

“I was surprised that he made that decision, in that I want to play in the first team and have been there for the last couple of seasons."

Sounds like he think's he has a god-given right to be in the team.

Come on Owen, you have got the talent, just keeping doing your best + hopefully Keano will see sense!

Wish I'd had the opportunity to play for ITFC...these players don't know they're born.

Don't bother. You are an overated ,wet lettuce. Run back home to your mummy like you tried to do a couple of seasons ago.

The most overated, under commited player we have had in years.

Sadly, I dont believe that he is going to make it. Clearly Owen has talent, but commitment..... ....doesn't really look like it on the pitch, does it?

He will have had plenty of coaching over the years and should know what he needs to do - but he does seem to come up short on match day. I wish him well and maybe RK could give him one more shot at it, but I doubt it. Probably best for him to move on and try to fit in elsewhere.

I would love him to prove me wrong.

Oh and the 'he's only 21' line - I remember when he was 'only 19' then 'only 20'. It's wearing a bit thin now...

It seems most of our supporters are happy to follow a team of cloggers.
In his own interest he should leave & join a footballing side where the club & supporters appreciate his talent & ability.
It is remeniscent of the unfounded comments which were made about Finidi George when he was here, when in fact he was one of only 4 true great players who have appeared for the club in recent years. ( others being Beattie , Muhren & Thyssen.)
Once again ITFC supporters demonstrate their complete lack of knowledge about the game.
I fully expect Delaney or Thatcher to be voted our footballer of the year.

Your having a go at Town fans lack of knowledge, then mentioning Finidi George in the same sentence as those 3 Town legends!? LMAO is all I have to say.

Its right Garvan was dropped and i hope he doesn't come back into the first team picture. He is too slow, has no strength, no ariel ability, can't shoot, can't tackle and lacks positional awareness.

He deserves the chance to put right the lack of commitment that he's shown recently, hopefully being totally dropped from the squad will give the motivation to get back on form.

Let's not forget he does set up some good chances and he also scored 7 goals last season, a decent tally for a midfield player.

Notice he says he 'wants to play in the first team' but not necessarily for Ipswich. He's trying to stir the pot to get a loan deal. Back Keano. Lump on Ipswich to beat Forest. Don't bet on Garv to score first!

Garv - your talented and was at one time best thing to come with loads of potential. We the fans work hard to pay your wages and i am offended that you are not sweating blood every game and up for it. In Alan Sugars words i can assure you that your are not to special to be shown the door. I hope you sort it out and we enjoy the positive from O G.

Bigfish, how can you be so cruel. Poor old Owen on has to train for 2 hours a day, has to survive on just 5 grand a week & even had to work Saturdays - although not lately. It must be awful kicking a ball around for a fortune let alone having to try hard as well!

lilian3415..are you on drugs??!..finidi george 1 of only 4 great players who've played for us in recent times??!!...I soley hold his signing responsible for our & George Burley's fall from grace..he was the beginning of the end of that great team from 10 years ago.
