Town Tried to Sign Birmingham Keeper
Town Tried to Sign Birmingham Keeper
Friday, 9th Oct 2009 12:25

Town made an approach to sign Birmingham keeper Colin Doyle on loan earlier in the season, according to reports in the Midlands. The Blues, Motherwell and Dundee United were all interested in taking the 24-year-old on a short-term basis, but Birmingham’s excessive financial demands scuppered the deals.

It’s likely that Town made an enquiry regarding Doyle in the wake of Shane Supple deciding to give up football in August.

The Irish international has found the situation very frustrating: “I came in at the end of last season, had a couple of games, did well and then the club told me that I could go out on loan. A few clubs were sorted but then they fell through.

“It was disappointing because I had the club saying that they wanted me to go and get a bit more experience but then they wanted money for me, it was ridiculous.”

The Blues eventually signed free agent Arran Lee-Barrett on a short-term deal until January.

Bohemians keeper Brian Murphy is set to join the Blues permanently on a Bosman in November at the end of the Irish season but won’t be able to formalise his move or play competitive games until the transfer window opens in January.

Not surprised about this. It just proves that Keano is on the ball and realised that Wright was suspect after all!

What happened to all the talk of bringing in a couple of loan players? We need a big, imposing center half so we stop conceding silly goals. I hope that RK is working diligently behind the scenes.

Let's face it, being bottom of the table does not make us a very attractive proposition for potential loan players. You could argue that it would be better if we didn't get anyone in on loan and the existing squad had to get us out of the position that they've gotten us in to.

Ipswichkev ... is that the same Wright who has been man of the match 3 games this season ? Perhaps he has lost confidence because his manager cannot decide on his best defence or team in front of him .
Barnes has gone at Tranmere who havewon twice ,lets see what a new manager does to their fortunes ?

wright has made some bad errors that's cost us games, the back four are playing shite at the moment, bringing in more players will just add confusion to the squad, keane needs to stop swapping and changing the squad and get a settled one

IpswichKev you're a tw@t what RK realized was Supple was going and he needed a back up keeper until January. Or did you not read the words shorterm loan? RW suspect? He is the best keeper in this division, and though he made a few mistakes this season he hasn't actually been playing behind a defence he has much confidence in so he tries to do things that he never would with a defence that he could actually trust. But even with those mistakes he has kept the score line down at times this season.

Spot on WickedBlue, RW has made some errors this season - as all keepers do, every season. But I still rate him very highly. I've been a 'keeper (hence no brain) and know that when the guys infront of you lose the plot you tend to overcompensate for them - and the result is usually that you end up picking the ball out of the back of net.

the problem this season is players don't know weather there coming or going, and for that reason i think certain players are just not performing

If it's come time to start slagging off Richard Wright then some people need to get a grip. He has ALWAYS been suspect coming for crosses or deciding to stay or go when one on one. That's why he didn't make it as a premier league keeper.
Having said that he is a great shot stopper ,has been a good and loyal servant to this club & is still a good keeper and often our MOM. For Gods sake leave him alone, when you've got a defence like ours in front of you each game it's enough to make anyone nervous.

I am not going to 'slag off' Richard Wright, but even the biggest of Wright fans have to admit his performances recently have been very suspect. Okay he pulled off a few decent saves - his performance at WBA was excellent - but sadly he is very inconsistent and cost us goals at Doncaster, Sheffield and looked to be lacking for the first at Barnsley. His performance against Newcastle was also very disappointing.

Wright is an excellent servant to ITFC, but is he consistent enough? RK will at the very least need to bring in a decent back up to serve as competion to Richard

Looking at the rest of our team at the moment, Richard Wright is the last person we should be critisising. Yes he has made a few mistakes but trying to keep goal with little or no defence infront of him must be a nightmare. Just how can our defence have got so much worse since last season when RK has brought in 2 full-backs who he obviously thought were better than what we had?

Some supporters need to stop being so fickle,

Sure Wrighty's made some mistakes recently, but a few weeks ago we were all praising his heroic performance against West Brom (commentator's even mentioning a England call up may be on the cards, in jest of course)

Richard Wright is a quality goalkeeper bottom line

Anyone that has a pop at Richard Wright's contribution to the Ipswich Town cause this season wants their head examined. Did you not see the West Brom away game!? Overall he's been our best player by a mile. Enough said.
