Trotter Rejoins Millwall On Loan
Trotter Rejoins Millwall On Loan
Monday, 4th Jan 2010 15:09

Midfielder Liam Trotter has rejoined League One Millwall on a month’s loan. Trotter made one start and two sub appearances in a previous spell at the Den in 2006.

Trotter has struggled to regain his place in the Town first team in recent weeks, having featured regularly until late October.

The 21-year-old is contracted to the Blues until June, having been on loan at Scunthorpe last season, with whom he faced Millwall in the League One play-off final at Wembley in May.

Trotter will formalise his move later this week ahead of Saturday’s game at Carlisle or if that match is off ahead of the Lions' following league game. Town have not given permission for him to feature in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, boss Roy Keane has emphasised the importance of recruiting players with the right character as the January transfer window opens: "There are a lot of hurdles to overcome in signing a player.

"Players generally are in a very strong position, an unbelievably strong position with the freedom of contract. That's why it's so important that when you sign a player, you get the right characters.

"You want players who are going to give it everything, keep their head down and work hard and not cause any trouble.

"Looking at it from both sides, when I was a player and my contract was coming up, I was in a very good bargaining position. Now as a manager, I am trying to do deals with players and it's very different."

Trotter can go permanently - too slow, offers little. Like a Dozzell, but without the talent/goals.

Good news, he gets alot of criticism and I think people forget that hes still young. A bit more experience would do him good.

Good chance to get some games under his belt. Whether he makes it here or elsewhere, good luck to the lad. Couldn't believe he was being booed by some fans this season. Am against booing our own players as it is, but when they are academy products who were also born in Ipswich it makes it even more senseless.

No point him being a Town player, Let him go to a league one club permenantly to actually play.

He's got chance now to regain his form he has had in various games and then come back itching to fight for his place in the team. I feel trotter is a good player(who represents the oustanding quality of our youth system) who in many years to come could become a hero to ipswich town football club. I always feel sorry for him as he always get so much stick and he does not deserve that.

alot of people who i know at PR reckon trotter has got it all for a modern day footballer and in training is brillant, just cant perform in games? why? hopefully getting games will help him...

not sure RK is the right manager to get best out of him, may be best for him to move on...

Think he may do well for us in a few years if he learns well as only 21 ,but was not upto it early in the season in front of a ever changing back four.
Where have all the Garvan knockers gone ? Round pegs and square holes, defensive midfielder needed to play next to Leadbitter absolute crap and a waste of a large part of the season ,how a few weeks changes everthing in football

Hope that he does well at Millwall as i still think that he is a developing talent and not as bad people make out. It didnt help being the whipping boy in a team that was playing poorly. Its a shame we turn on our own homegrown talent when we used to pride ourselves on bringing on our young'uns.

Why the hell wasn't he loaned out at the start of the season instead of beeing played instead of the far better Garvan?

Although I don't want to be too harsh on a young player,it's with regret that I don't believe Trotter is good enough (sadly). The loan is good for all three parties.

I think Trotter has a good player on him.. we just need to get it out. I remember before he was sent off against Porthsmouth a couple of seasons back everyone was excited about him. With a bit of confidence and experience he should be good!

RK spoke about the 'right character' when it comes to signing players.
I think that this was the main problem he had at the seasons beginning when things weren't happening for us.
He's finally broke them in and now the corner has been turned.
In Keano I trust.

Liam is quality and at youth level was a fantastic prospect. Unfortunately he was not given the freedom (or confidence) to express himself at Ipswich and probably won't at Millwall either. I wish him good luck and Town fans should be supporting home grown talent.

To be blunt not good enough and never will be for RK. The bloke is another Pablo got the talent but no inclination to use it - shame.

the main problem was that his confidence looked shot to pieces with the abuse he was getting. Very difficult for a young player to come in and do well in a struggling side when he is getting abuse like that. Still think he is a good prospect - big and athletic but with a good touch, control and pass, and good in the tackle. Think he will be a good championship player for someone eventually, although after the way he has been treated at ipswich I am not sure it will be with us. Shame, Ipswich used to be a good club for bringing through young players.

Good luck Liam. Get a decent run of games under your belt and come back to PR ready for the continuing challenge.

The right thing to do. Liam clearly has potential and if he gets a run in the Millwall first team then that should help his development.
