Priskin No to Charlton Loan
Priskin No to Charlton Loan
Friday, 15th Jan 2010 07:17

Striker Tamás Priskin has turned down the chance to join League One Charlton on loan. The Hungarian has struggled to win a first team place since joining the Blues from Watford for £1.7 million in the summer, scoring only two goals in nine starts and seven sub appearances.

Last week the 23-year-old said that he was determined to stay with Town and prove himself and knew nothing of reports that he was set to be sold to fund the Blues' January signings: "I’ve only seen this in the press and if it’s up to me, I'm not going anywhere.”

Boss Roy Keane has already sent fellow fringe players Colin Healy, Liam Trotter and Tommy Smith out on loan to Falkirk, Millwall and Brentford respectively in order for them to play competitive games and the club are willing to allow other non-regulars to make similar moves.

Priskin, who has been capped 24 times by Hungary, scoring seven goals, is contracted to the Blues until June 2012.

Meanwhile, former Blue Kieron Dyer is again being linked with a return to Town, but settling the midfielder's contract at Upton Park is said to be a stumbling block to any proposed move.

Elsewhere, contrary to the claim of a return to Town, which first surfaced in November but was dismissed by both clubs, other reports claim the 31-year-old is considering retiring due to bhis ongoing injury problems.

I'm amazed Charlton want him!!, Has their tea-lady gone on long term sick then?!?

Get rid, he has looked sulky disinterested and quite frankly, not up to the job, let alone his price tag!

Keep Pablo though, he adds something different and, as per the case against Leicester on Sunday, the ball would have a chance of staying in the oposition's half rather than the ball just being sent back to our penalty box every time we celar the ball!

maybe the threat of having to drop down a league for games will be a kick up the back side for him, no doubt a good talented player but for some reason dont seam to be working out for him at town

When he has played in the team, the whole team looked very poor. Should be given more of a chance. I think he will come, just like some of the others have done.

He (TP) obviously needs a run of games, but the issue clearly is that we are still perilously close to the relegation zone and can't afford to gamble. Having said that, Stead is the only striker looking likely to score - so what to do?

Difficult one for RK, but then he is paid a lot of money to make difficult decisions...

I'd like to see more of him playing. We have definatly turned a corner now, that does seem nothing to do with him though as I don't think he's played in any of our wins, so I can't see why RK would put him back in?

Give him a start. No better time than when Stead is suspended. He is quality, but lacking in confidence. Maybe should have gone to Charlton for a month, bang a few goals in and come back to PR refreshed

We know he can perform at this level he just needs a half decent chance to prove it. Its good to see that he wants to stay and fight so with Stead out why not give him a Wickham a start

Whilst I'll agree that thus far he's not shown nearly enough effort or ability I think that given the amount we spent on him and the caliber of other strikers we've been linked with in the paper talk we should give him an extended run and then judge him at the end of the season. We'd all love to get the mystery 20+ goal a season man but until they can be found available, at a transfer fee + wages that we can afford and be persuaded to join town I think we should give Priskin a run in the second half of the season to see if he can cut it or not. Strikers need a run of games and some confidence before they'll find the back of the net on a regular basis. At the beginning of the season many people were disappointed to have missed out on Ched Evans who cost Sheffield Utd £3 million and his record so far this season is 3 goals from 22 appearances (about 1 in every 7 & a half games) whereas Tamas has 2 goals from 15 (so again about 1 in every 7 & a half games).

Dyer would be great if he wasnt crocked! Will spend more time in the treatment room than on the field IMO

Is this Keane's fault as per Healy?

It would be worth shipping him out for a bit if they could teach him the offside rule.

Maybe he should spend a month with my local pub team so he can practice staying onside and reminding himself of what offside is.

Kieron Dyer was down Whitton Sports centre watching 5 a side on Monday night, I know he's in Ipswich quite often but who knows?

i agree with you nobrain, he has not shown anything, perhaps he may given a run , but as you say we are not in a position to gamble,we really need to be scoring goals and winning games .I am not convinced he is going to do a job for us,on the performances he has put in [albeit brief]when given chance to prove himself.Loaning him out might wake him up.

the only way he'll score goals & get confidence is BY PLAYING GAMES! i do like keane but sometimes i get frustrated with just wickham being on the bench & not priskin & pablo, yes wickhams got talent but he's 16 he aint gonna score the goals for us, counago & priskin will given a chance, every game i see them 2 not on the bench my heart sinks coz i couldnt see where the goals will come from in the 2nd half if we took stead off or walters, im preying priskin, counago, wickham are all on the bench tomorrow. or even better counago or priskin starting and given a chance.

lukeym18 totally agree with you. Priskin missed that pen at pboro we lost the game, dont think he has had a good game, when picked since. Cardiff took him off,we won. His luck will change and the goals will come once he gets that four letter word we have not had LUCK.. We must win on Saturday ,thety won 2-1 at home,we lost Chuck for half a season. i am putting my monrey on him to score a brace and a 3-1 win for us K D well dont think he will be back, unless working with backroom staff, had no luck over the past couple of years. Still rate him as one of the best to come out of PR for some years

Feel a bit sorry for Priskin as the guy has obviously got what it takes to score goals. 14 goals or so with a poor Watford side last season is not a bad achievement and I am really disappointed that he has not come up to the mark for us. I don't think we have helped his cause by not even having him on the bench and again our fans are so quick to slate players when they are lacking in confidence. Delaney is a casing point and look at him now. As for Pablo forget him his attitude angers me and he is not a Roy Keane type player. Has oodles of class but his temperament stinks - sadly he will stick around and take the huge salary Jim gave him. Heres hoping for 3 points tomorrow.
