Baptiste on Trial This Week
Baptiste on Trial This Week
Monday, 22nd Feb 2010 10:05

Trinidadian international Kerry Baptiste will spend this week on trial with the Blues. The 28-year-old, who currently plays for Joe Public in his home country, was due over in January but his spell was postponed due to the snowy weather.

Boss Roy Keane says Baptiste will be looking to emulate the likes of Arran Lee-Barrett and Shane O’Connor in impressing him enough to win a deal: “He’s due over this week, I’m sure he’ll be pleased with the weather. He’s due in for a few days.

“We’ll have a look at the boy, Carlos knows him. We look forward to him having a few days with us, like Arran had a few days with us or Shane had a few days with us.”

An international team-mate of Edwards and former loanee Stern John with 43 caps and eight goals, Baptiste was previously with Trinidad clubs San Juan Jabloteh and North East Stars.

The striker or right winger is the all-time top scorer in the TT Pro League, Trinidad and Tobago's top division, having scored 102 goals, 48 of them coming last season.

The Blues have no new injuries ahead of Tuesday’s game at Scunthorpe but Liam Rosenior could be back in the squad after missing out over the weekend due to illness.

Scunthorpe have requested help from their fans in clearing snow from their pitch covers this morning ahead of the Blues’ visit.

Its Snowing again. It must be Baptiste's fault. Everytime he has a trial it starts snowing!!

Is he a 2018 ambassador? If he isn't I dont think we should get involved.

FAO bennyblue - he hasn't had a trial yet - if you read the story his first trial didn't happen as the weather was so bad, the team wasn't training outdoors so Roy postponed it.

oh yawn Bennyblue, boring!

Good to hear Rosenior was out due to illness and not dropped.

Good Luck mr Joe Public, hope you like the weather!

As I ask every time this story recurs: he couldn't join until the next window, right?–he is under contract? If so, this is (almost) a complete non-story, as (one way or another) I assume we'll have different targets by the summer. Perhaps Keane is doing a favour to an agent.

I'm excited by anyone who comes in on trial. I still see at least 1/3of the squad as deadwood, so the march continues to build something good.

It's all conjecture, never seen him pay, but; seems from his goal scroing record he knows where the goal is albeit at a low standard.

If he's strong and hassles, and can score, could well be a good version of Alan Lee.

One thing that's certain is, i'd rather have RK judging him than Jimbo. missed a certain someone who goes on to score 15 from midfield in the following season.. ;-P

Surely if this lad was any good someone would have found him before he was 28 years old!?

pauliejaz,
i changed my avatar because it was offending some of the readers, now you have adopted it as your own...
for the record, the views expressed by 'pauliejaz' have nothing to do with those of Jabberjackson's, we are in no way related, although he seems like a perfectly reasonable chap and all that...

if he's half as good as Kerry dixon, he might be alright, any other girlname footballers who are a bit special anybody?

48 goals last season? No good to Keano, he want's a 20 goal a season striker.

Game better be on. Taking a day off to go up there having set off for the original to have to turn round. Would take a point, 7 out of 12 on the road in the last 2 weeks all against our rivals would be a good haul.

Why thank you jabberjackson, I am indeed a lovely fellow, with regards my avatar, I have recieved no complaints and I was unaware that you have previously used it. I dont see the problem myself, he just looks a bit like roy keane thats all, if anyone is offended then they should get out more lol

just watch yourself PJ, there are some serious types out there, and I have a suspicion that Terry Waite is a regular on the postings and any reference to middle eastern oppressive regimes makes him feel a bit hot (under the collar)

I will watch my back! I do find it funny that people are so easily offended about something that really is nothing. I'm not supporting Ahmedinejad just think he looks a bit like roy keane. I can picture Terry Waite standing at my doorstep for when i get home from work!

pauliejaz, now I'm thinking I have never seen RK and Ahmediniwotsit in the same room at the same time? Could be a conspiracy....

On this Kerry Baptiste fellow, I'm sure he is a cracking striker back home (why has he not been picked up earlier?) but its a big jump from playing in T&T to a cold Tuesday night in Scunthorpe - surely there must be better, younger talent nearer home??

Beware of the Green and Yellow Jihad, Paulijaz... they strap exploding Delia Smith Christmas puddings round their middles and are rumoured to be refining turnips to weapons grade
