Town Linked With PSV Friendly
Town Linked With PSV Friendly
Sunday, 6th Jun 2010 10:01

Town are pencilled in to face Dutch giants PSV in a friendly in Eindhoven on Saturday 17th July, according to reports in Holland. The game will be part of a fans’ day at the club managed by Sir Bobby Robson between 1990 and 1992 and again from 1998 to 1999.

PSV are also reported to be lining up a memorial friendly against Newcastle United on July 31st, the day on which the Robson lost his long battle against cancer last year.

Neither Town nor PSV have confirmed the friendly as yet, but if the game does take place as reported, the Blues will probably play two more matches on Dutch soil as part of their preparations for 2010/11, presumably instead of the trip to Ireland mooted by manager Roy Keane at the end of the season.

The Blues last played pre-season games in Holland in the summer of 2006 when they faced Willem II and Dortrecht as well as Belgian side Zulte Waregem, all three matches ending in 1-1 draws.

Town and PSV last met in a friendly at Portman Road prior to the start of the 2001/02 season, which the Dutch side won 2-0.

Friendlies with West Ham at Portman Road on Friday 31st July and at Southend's Roots Hall on Friday 9th July have already been confirmed. Reports in Italy claim Lazio could finally play the second friendly they owe the Blues for the transfer of Matteo Sereni this summer.

Meanwhile, Town's U18s will play their annual friendly in Southwold against Sole Bay United on Thursday 22nd July (6.30pm). Last season, Ronan Murray hit a hat-trick as the young Blues won 6-0.

A cup would be a great shout, but we'd have to throw in Porto, Barcelona and Sporting Lisbon as well as PSV and Newcastle. I'd fancy us to win this easily!!!

Cool we could pick up the next Reuser while we are there hopefully the new ones fitness will last more than half a year though lol

The cup mentioned above would be a good fund raiser for the foundation on a yearly basis.

This should be one of those mini tournaments... Sir Bobby Robson Tournament; WBA, Fulham, Newcastle, Ipswich, PSV, Sporting, Porto & Barca. Two groups of 4 on a round robin then SF & Final... as Keaneish says some EASY silverware for us... we'll defo win oh yeah!

Yeah, I remember that last PSV friendly - they totally outclassed us, it was a very ominous warning for the season ahead.

As Harwich Blue says, "typical!" I'm supposed to be in Eindhoven about two weeks later. Might still make it though.... I hope there'll be a good turnout, 'cos, folks, it's an easy journey from Harwich, and a lot of fun, especially if the weather's nice. Just do it!

Great game, and I love the idea of a little tournament, like Pendejo said, 2 groups of 4 with the 8 teams being the clubs Bobby managed, love the idea

I said this was in the pipeline two weeks ago and no one believed me, perhaps you will listen next time. After all I got the West Ham info weeks before that was announced as well.

Don't forget, the great Sir Bob managed Fulham, ITFC, PSV, Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Barca, Newcastle and England. There you go, 8 teams!
