Cardiff: We Don't Need to Sell Chopra

Cardiff City chairman Gethin Jenkins says the recent takeover of his club by a Malaysian consortium means the Bluebirds do not have to sell striker Michael Chopra. Town are understood to have made offers of up to £4 million for the former Sunderland man, although Jenkins says reports of a bid are "speculation".

Jenkins, whose club settled their £1.9 million tax debt last week, said: "We're not in a position where we need to sell. With the new investment we're building a strong platform to go forward.

“And Michael Chopra is contracted to us and the reports of the bid is just speculation."

Town boss Roy Keane is understood to want to pair Chopra, who he signed when manager of Sunderland, with Connor Wickham next season.

We will either sign him or not, simple really, in the meantime i will sit back and enjoy the "chase" and see who else we get linked with. Either way i doubt much will happen until that little thing in South Africa is over anyway.

bedsitfc added 16:40 - Jun 16 hope he does come as he will almost certainly score 15 - 20 goals a season but he is expensive, just wondering if we should be looking at less pricey players. as above lambert, austin, bogdanovic, tudgay, billy sharpe, hooper and then have more to spend on other areas like full backs

This doesn't mean a lot. Any club in their position would say the same thing. We don't have to sell either, but if someone offered us £4m for Jon Walters (for example) I think we would take it! If I recall correctly, Cardiff have been saying this sort of thing for years and often do sell someone, usually for a massively inflated price.

Chopra is still available if RK really wants him (and ME is prepared to pay for him).

so an end to yet more false hope and a complete loads of wasted hours writing on here....we should all know by now that no decent players want to come to this club or play for keane...VERY OBVIOUS!!!!
One thing i do know is that ME's Helicopter was definetely in town this alvo cos it flew right over my shop on hadleigh road industrial estate-lets just hope he was going in to give him his marching orders.....watch this space......

RetroBlue added 17:20 - Jun 16 sounds to me like Cardiff trying desperately to hang onto their striker. Town have made several bids to them ....if it was a no sell policy , why the repeated bids ? Also, Chopra might like to speak to Roy Keane if Town have met their valuation, as we appear to have done so!

If we knew they had to sell them we could be more firm and offer no more but this may make us raise our bid to 5 million. Besides I have a good witness that he was seen viewing a house in martlesham last weekend!

Someone said we have made repaeated bids....cardiff say not. I would take that more seriously as the stories saying we had never came from the club. personally I'd rather spend 1.5 on austin as I think there are far more goals in our strikers than was shown last season. We dont need a 20 goal striker to get promoted, thats proven in the stats from last year...none of the three promoted sides had one, they just had good teams.
