Town Linked With West Brom's Miller

Town are one of a number of Championship clubs claimed to be interested in taking West Brom striker Ishmael Miller on loan. The Blues, Nottingham Forest, Leicester and Swansea are all said to be chasing the former Manchester City man.

Miller, 23, has made only one sub appearance for Albion this season having returned to action earlier in the year after 14 months out with a cruciate knee ligament injury, scoring twice at the end of the last campaign.

Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo is said to be keen to send Miller out on loan to get games under his belt.

The Mancunian started his career with Manchester City before moving to West Brom on loan in August 2007, the two clubs making that move a permanent one for £900,000 the following January. More of a second striker than an out-and-out goalscorer, 6ft 3in tall Miller has netted 21 goals in 43 starts and 29 sub appearances for Albion.

Town boss Roy Keane revealed yesterday that he was speaking to a number of clubs regarding a potential loan signing, having previously indicated that he would be interested in adding another striker to his squad.

Would be a quality signing.

Totally agree we still need a right back, christ knows why we didn't keep Rosenior on, he was solid last season. Clearly pissed Keane off and got his marching orders. Troy Brown, Jaime Peters, and Tom Eastman all not good enough to play full back in the Championship.

Lets get behind the boys tonight, cause the Cobblers are bringing 3000 and will be bloody noisy!

BerkshireBlue added 17:41 - Oct 26 Would much prefer a quality right back (Peters tries hard but ...., Troy Brown and Tom Eastman are not yet good enough). That having said, I do rate Miller but with only playing one up front where will he fit in?

Suffolk_n_Good added 19:17 - Oct 26 This won't happen, let me explain, he plays for West Brom, Leicester & Forest are both geographically closer, that means he wont have to relocate for the loan period, he's therefore more likely to choose either of them than us.

Surely whether Miller is a good player or not is somewhat irrelevant at this stage? I don't claim to be an expert but surely filling a side with of Premiership reject loanees at the expense of players that actually belong to your football club isn't the best way to foster team spirit?

Still though, worked beautifully at Norwich a few years back when they got bored of the Championship and fancied a pop at League 1.

Simply can't believe some people don't think we need a striker! We have Scotland/Priskin! That's it. This idiotic view that loans are not reqired is madness. Top quality players is always good for a Championship club. Murphy came in and did very well last year and Miller is a very decent striker.

However, suspect Mogga will sign this guy and why not - he'll score goals. Contrary to popular opinion, players will sign for their old bosses - happens all over the counrty. Not just Roy getting players from Sunderland.

Over the last few years we haven't had a main striker with as good a strike rate.

I don't think anybody's slating Miller especially. Rather this over-reliance on loan signings can never lead anywhere. Last year we had Begovic, Rosernier, Colback, Murphy and Healy (I've probably forgotten one or two). How many of these players did we retain?

The argument is that our current squad is not good enough for a sustained promotion push and I wouldn't dispute that. However, this is no one's fault but Keane's. The only two players in our usual starting line-up who were regulars under Magilton are David Norris and Gareth McCauley. These are Keane's players. He signed them. If they are not up to scratch, the buck must stop with him.

@ Ashfinland as to reasons why

- Bergovic was an emergency loan and got recalled then later sold as an asset by portsmouth
- Rosernior was offered a contract i believe but apprently he had other offers abroad and turned it down for promices of Euro football
- Murphy got bought by Celtic - how could we compete with them?
- Healy was always going to be temporary and he hardly set world alight down here
- Colback back then was always part of bruces plans.

ofcourse my memory could be bad so if im wrong id like to be corrected :)

AshFinland added 09:44 - Oct 27 @Calmingwind, Cheers for the information but I wasn't really talking about WHY those players were not retained. I was just trying to make the point that relying on loanees to the extent that we do cannot provide any sort of basis for long-term success.

Bergovic and Colback aside we would not have wanted any of the loans to sign
Rosenoir criticised Keanes treatment of the young players and was frozen out after that , Murphy had an initial burst but then had a worse scoring ratio than Stead had before he went on loan ,Healy was awful ,John did ok but was never a realistic signing at his age anyway .
What others are trying to say is that not just our club but all championship clubs rarely sign there loan players even if promotion is gained ,thats just the way it is so doesnt really build for a great team spirit knowing whatever happens you probably wont be here anyway after the season finishes .
