Keane Exit Confirmed
Keane Exit Confirmed
Friday, 7th Jan 2011 11:20

Town have confirmed that manager Roy Keane's contract as been "amicably terminated" after 20 months in charge at Portman Road. The Blues boss had been under pressure for some weeks after Town’s plummet down the table to 19th after a good start to the season had seen them reach second.

Chief executive Simon Clegg made the announcement at a press conference at Portman Road this morning and said that no new appointment will be made before the match against Chelsea.

Coach Ian 'Charlie' McParland will be in charge while the club speak to a number of potential new managers with Clegg emphasising that the new manager not as yet decided.

In a press release owner Marcus Evans said: “I would like to put on record my thanks to Roy for his commitment to try and bring success to Ipswich Town Football Club during his time at Portman Road. I would like to wish him every success for the future.”

Clegg added: “Today is a sad day for me. I have enjoyed working with Roy over the past two seasons and I would like to thank him for his tremendous dedication and professionalism during that period.

"Regrettably though, we have not made the progress that we had all expected over the last 20 months and this season in particular with the side slipping to 19th place in the Championship table.”

To be honest I would like to see Burley or Royle back at our club...
Other candidates I would like is... Zola, Holland, Curbs, O'Driscoll, and Hughton.
Anyone must be better than Keano eh?
COYB!
And we must support the new manager, no matter who it is, it's VERY important that we show him that we have faith in him and the team. So lets get behind the manager no matter who! :)

I would love to see Martin Jol appointed but think that this may be beyond us. Whoever it is though, I think that we must go for someone with bags of managerial experience (and contacts).

Who was the idiot from Sky asking the questions? Clegg - We will not name anyone yet. Sky man - Is it Gary Megson? Give me strength!

If it is Megson you will never see me at PR again - Once a scummer always a scummer - Remember Ian Crooke & Andy Marshall!

Clegg was right about one thing - 'this is a sad day for our great club' - Probably the right time for RK to go, but i just hope all the people that have been on his back since 6 months in are happy today, you really should be very proud of yourselves.

Another quote from Clegg 'we all take some responsibility for the position we are in now' Well that includes the fans too!

They will look backwards to some deadbeat celeb who's out of work for a reason, and get them on a long expensive deal to bring their special brand of hoofball to PR 'to keep us up' then have to swallow it for the next couple of seasons... Oh, Joy. We need some footballing knowledge in positions higher than the manager at this club.

I'm sad for Keane. I still had a little bit of faith left in him. Not really that conerned about who comes in next as long as we try to play attractive football again. Realistically I think it might be Jewell. If I could choose I would have Hoddle.

Surely the Megson thing's a red herring. Any other appointment after that particular suggestion would appear positive.

Eamon Dunphy believes Roy Keane is not suited for management, and that he will not get another managerial job following his dismissal as Ipswich Town boss.

Speaking on Morning Ireland, the RTÉ soccer analyst told Darren Frehill that he was not surprised Keane had been sacked. Under Keane, Ipswich have lost 10 of their last 14 games.

Dunphy said: 'The results have been very poor, and he has been sniping at the club for not giving him money to buy players.'

'I don't think he is cut-out for management. His record at Sunderland was OK, but the constant stories of fights with players and his public denunciation of his own players are bad signs. I don't think Roy Keane is cut-out temperamentally for management. You have to respect other people.'

No Sh.t Eamon us Ipswich fans been saying that for months!!!!

Sky news reported earlier that Gary Megson died this morning. Tragically it was Gary Mason

A sad day, but one that has been coming for a while. Apart from a reasonably bright start to this season things never clicked for RK and in recent weeks his position has become untenable. Hopefully this will give our players a much needed wake-up call/confidence boost.

I'd love it to be O'Driscoll, but it looks like Jewell is a done deal. Who needs Mourinho, we've got Paul Jewellio?

On the basis that an astute business man such as ME will already have a man in place I would think that Plan B has always been Curbs.

It looks like we have a Pro Jewell anti Jewell already if you read the post on stories on TWTD.

Who ever it is we need to show support for them, as they will be with the club for at least 2 years

I would like to thank Roy for his efforts, he always tried his best but things didn't work out,I would of like to have seen him succeed with us. Hopefully Hughton or Poyet could come in

Fo the love of God , not Megson - That really would be taking the pi55.

We need a positive appointment.

Do you reckon ME ever looks at this messageboard?..if you owned the club, you'd have a look, wouldn't you?

Let's hope he gets an idea of what the fans want before deciding....Burley,Curbs,Hughton,Wilkins,Jimbo will do nicely...even Jewell over Megson.
