Clegg Happy With Season Ticket Total
Clegg Happy With Season Ticket Total
Friday, 20th May 2011 09:18

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has revealed that the Blues sold just over 13,000 season tickets for 2011/12 at the reduced early bird price. That’s down around 5% at the same stage last season with the total eventually reaching 14,300.

Clegg says he’s pleased with the total given the circumstances: “I would like to thank those fans who have purchased season tickets for next season.

“While we are obviously disappointed with a slight drop in take up of season tickets, it is perfectly understandable given the current economic climate.

“We also have to accept that we have had a number of disappointing seasons over recent years.

“Hopefully, next year we will be pushing for a top six place. That’s the target of the owner, the manager and myself.”

Town’s season ticket prices rose by around 6%, the first increase for five years.

Really !!!!
If i was him I would not be happy with that and would look at all avenues to try and increase that number, just show the ambition of the man, what a total plank !!!!

Surely the more important question is whether the 13000 who have bought season tickets are happy with Clegg.

I'm surprised he didn't add "and let me tell you that you are the sorriest 13000 I have EVER seen in my life - now drop and give me 50 !"

Do you think the 5% drop was the cause of "much hilarity"?

In all seriousness, a 5% drop is nothing considering the dross that's been served up lately. That's 19 in every 20 season ticket holder signing back up (and at an average 6% increase in cost). Well done to all 13,000.

Bit worrying that that inbred lot from accross the border sell many more season tickets than us (in the seasons before this short-lived season of humiliation in the Prem) Perhaps our club should be looking at why that is ie pricing, discounts, offers, attitude towards the punters etc

May be our " inbred" ( as you put it)friends up the a140 dont have much choice for going to see football at higher levels. where as we have to compete with the prem clubs in london, i know many people in suffolk who go to westham, chelsea, arsenal and spurs. if we were out back yonder like narwich then we may get more coming, but then again there is also a lot more option for people to go and do in suffolk the there is in norfolk....

Some decent signings (Bullard/Dyer/Sharp) would see a decent increase IMO.

However, it's unlikely.

Still, let's be ubeat about this! COYB!

I don't understand how nobody at the club has suggested that they drop prices to encourage sales. We've been banging on about it all year and if it's obvious to us, surely it's obvious to the business people at Ipswich.

Lots of idiotic criticism of Clegg here. But, a 5% drop is far less than I expected, to be honest. 13,000 is perfectly reasonable given the terrible football we've had in recent seasons.

No surprise that ticket sales are down. 13K seems to be quite impressive though considering the circumstances and as other posters have said it is now time for Clegg to reward the loyalty by sorting out player transfers plus learn from last years mistakes of letting players contracts run out and leave for nothing.

Of course, the club must now focus on encouraging fans to purchase match-day tickets. For me, PJ has a big role to play. People I have spoken to - and who have not renewed - are very much against his one up front tactic. Time for PJ to start playing a more attacking formation at home and hopefully fans will return. The tactic against Norwich (Scotland isolated by himself) I am afraid didn't help encourage those who went to the game.

Maybe the club could have given season tickets more cup games ? It's stupid when we have low gates in early rounds.... People will not pay

jas0999 - when pj came in he stated he wanted to play 4-4-2 but the playing staff he had suited 4-4-3 but our problem is we dont have a real danger man up front so the 2 wide players get sucked back into midfield. i personally think we will see a big change in a performances next season.

i am just wondering if we would have sold any season tickets if keane was still here.
with the downturn in the economy and our performances over recent years i am very happy with 13000.

bedsitfc - a 4 4 3 - no this is a formation I would love to play. Mind you the way both Fulop and Lee Barrett dealt with crosses at the end of last season you may as well play them on field!

Can't be bothered to work it out but if there is a 5% decrease in sales but 6% rise have we gained more money? Surely clegg should get credit in getting the club more income.

Not exactly overwhelming ambition - 13,000 season tickets and "hopefully we'll be pushing for a top six place". Can barely contain my excitment.

Clegg saw me off, after 30 years of owning a season ticket. He has no respect for the people who help pay his salary. The club has sadly lost all of it's charm since the arrival of the cash and Clegg. Well done to all of you that did renew and I really hope you are rewarded, but I'm afraid I don't think you will be. It will be a case of looking down again, rather than up.

I would have renewed but for the fact that the ticket office wouldn't accept my renewal on the basis of the monthly payment scheme having sent me the early bird literature and allowing me to send the application - why? because I missed a couple of payments that were paid all be it a little later than the date set. Couldn't afford to pay for the full ticket up front and so they just said ok then (pissed me off to be honest) especially as I travel 400 miles in total for a home game. Still come to think of it, it'll be cheaper for me to go to the away games I reckon - Glegg your a poor excuse for Chief Exec!
