Town and Forest Eyeing Treacy
Town and Forest Eyeing Treacy
Saturday, 28th May 2011 09:07

Town and Nottingham Forest are showing interest in Preston left winger Keith Treacy, according to reports in Ireland. The 22-year-old is claimed to have already been the subject of an unsuccessful £800,000 bid from Burnley this summer and looks certain to leave the newly-relegated Lilywhites.

The Republic of Ireland international is said to be valued at around the £1 million mark, with another year remaining on his Preston contract, and says he has spoken to his current club’s manager Phil Brown about moving on: “We had a meeting and he’s just put a price on my head and said if it gets met, all well and good, we won’t hold you back.

“We’ll have to wait and see now if a club is interested or what’s going to happen but I’m hopeful, yeah, because I want to play at the highest level I possibly can.

“I feel maybe the Championship or the Premiership at a push would be ideal for me. I think I’m a little bit better than League One if I’m being honest.”

Treacy played for the Belvedere club in his native Dublin as a youngster before joining Blackburn in 2005.

The 6ft-tall wideman’s senior debut followed a year later during a loan spell with Stockport County in League Two, which was followed by a further temporary switch to Sheffield United in 2009.

Having made only 10 starts and 12 sub appearances for Blackburn, Treacy joined Preston for an undisclosed fee on February 1st 2010.

Described as a pacy and tricky winger, Treacy forced his way into the North End side during his first half-season at Deepdale and has been a regular this term, scoring nine goals in 36 starts and five games from the bench. He was subbed in the first half of Town’s final day victory over Preston having been clattered by Troy Brown early on.

The Dubliner has also now added three senior Irish appearances to his four caps and one goal at U21 level and is likely to be in the side which takes on Scotland in the final Carling Nations Cup match in Dublin on Sunday (6pm Sky Sports One/HD1). Blues defender Damien Delaney and former loanee Darren O’Dea are also likely to be involved.

Meanwhile, another winger interesting the Blues, Dundee United’s right-sided man Craig Conway, is reported to have turned down the offer of a contract at Rangers.

Conway, whose terms with the Terrors are up this summer, is said to have spoken to the Blues, Crystal Palace and Watford with the Eagles believed to be the frontrunners for his signature.

Oh it's that time of the day again. I'm more interested to know who was PJ actually talking to as that seems to be a step forward from "we are linked with"

Another load of blarney!!

With Edwards, Carson, Martin, Civelli, O'Connor and Peters do we need another winger anyway?

HolbrookBlue- Because he is better than all the ones we got apart from Carson who is just potential at moment.

Civelli- is finished he has no strength confidence or pace
Martin- Too lightweight does not score goals
O' Connor- Is a left/wing back who does not appeared to be rated by PJ
Peters- Does anyone know his best position? he is not a winger who can beat a player and whip in pinpoint crosses is he?
Edwards- Is now our number one right back

My friend in Preston said papers up there were reporting on Thursday that we were eyeing up a joint bid for Treacy and St. Ledger.

HolbrookBlue: Civelli and Peters are clearly not good enough and Edwards is getting past it now, Martin shows touches od brilliance but touches of crap. From your list, I only hold high hopes for Carson and O'Connor, the latter of which is more of a wingback anyway.

If theres any competition for any player we will lose out, can you really see Clegg winning over a player?

Carson our only decent left winger, Martin Will play on the right with Edwards as right back, civelli has not recovered fully and I doubt will reach his potential..... so good move if true.

Ipswich24 Looks like you are Mr Barry Big Bullocks... Who are you to say all that Crap about the players ?? Lee Martin is a brilliant winger who gets the balls across and wins us freekicks, We have Carson who is quality... So to be honest I reli think your chating some corn talk. So maybe you should think of changing your name to CornTalk24

At the end of the day Carlos Edwards is Sh*t Hot at right back but he is a right winger. So we need to sign someone like Gianni Zuirvaloon and this sign Bullard and a Striker. Well Maybe a Goalkeeper but thats not a massive matter so we can get by. We all know Simon Clegg is the worst at signing people and that he should just leave the club, To be honest I dont think he could sign a player on Fifa hes that bad.

KenDubz- I aint the only one who has that opinion am I? At the end of day everyone entitled to their opinion on players the manager the club etc.
And I did say crap about players? No just the truth

All that matters is Bullard.
If this guy is soo good why was he relegated? Same with st Ledger - they're both overrated crap who the 'Championship big spenders' will waste their cash on. Let it not be us!

Also vs Preston final day what season was that?

@itfc1981...boring...next time your in the board room listening to negotiations with a player then come back and let us all know what went on but until then you have absolutely no idea whether its clegg or anyone else who is the reason for failed signings

Forest will most likely sign him if it's one of us.

A cheeky £2.5 million bid for him and St Ledger, just to test the water!

If we sign a left winger, then it would seem we would need to off-load several players! Striker, central midfield, central defence and right-back are areas where we are woefully short. Left Midfield is not one of them. Plus, any player linked with other clubs is more than likely going to sign for them.

2 players don't make a team, so its a rubbish argument to say a relegated team holds players that aren't good enough, merely based on the fact the got relegated

rob_flecks_waistline added 10:11 - May 28
@kropotkin...exactly, all relegated teams have some decent players and remember how tight the league was last year, there wasn't a lot of difference in terms of quality between us and preston surely? look at brum..some quality players there

@pazelle - Same could be said for McAuley then could it?

TownOnTheUp added 10:20 - May 28
I can't believe people saying we don't need a left winger, when to my knowledge we haven't had one for... well, I can't even remember. I suppose Civelli, but since he's been injured, he doesn't count. Before that... nope, I'm stuck again. A left footed, left winger = a priority for me.

pazelle added 10:21 - May 28
@05rawlip - Not really, Leicester were relegated with one of the fewest goals conceded - it was their lack of goals that relegated them.

Treacy for £1 million? Thought Jewell had said we already have a Kevin Kilbane in waiting - or can't he be bothered to coach Civelli to the player he could be?

Saw him play for Sheff Utd as an attacking left sided midfielder and always impressed. Knows where the net is, and has a vicious shot.

Johnson and Kilkenny from Leeds would be useful in my opinion.
