Town Reportedly Leading Race for Nosworthy
Town Reportedly Leading Race for Nosworthy
Sunday, 5th Jun 2011 21:37

Town are leading the race to sign Sunderland defender Nyron Nosworthy, according to a report in the North-East. The 30-year-old was linked with the Blues last month and then again earlier this weekend.

Nosworthy, who can leave the Stadium of Light on a free transfer despite having another year left on his contract, is believed to have spoken with the Blues, Reading and Crystal Palace.

The one-time Gillingham man was previously targeted by Town during his former Sunderland boss Roy Keane’s time at Portman Road and earlier by Joe Royle when he was manager of the Blues.

There have been a lot of negative comments surrounding this guy.

But if he wants to be here then thats fine by me. Lets give the guy a fair chance, not be clouded by the opinions of other clubs supporters and if he comes, get behind him 100%.

Can see him signing for us - especially with the ex-Sunderland team mates here already

Tricky one.
A player that wins the player of the year when Sunderland were promoted, but one that Sheffield Utd fans say made 3 to 4 howlers a match in a relegated side. That said I remember people not wanting the Iceman Hriederson because every team he played in had been relegated. He was fond of howlers and so was/is Bramble ... but both of them make howlers because they are often the last ditch defenders who have the pace to get back. What fans often don't appreciate is the reason goals are scored are the defenders who dont cover and blame the ones that try to scramble to make up for their team mates short comings.
Truth is we need a RB and CB. If we got St Ledger that would be marvellous, but we need experienced players and Nuggsy has proved he can do a job. Possibly not the best signing in the world, but a start.

Have to say as an exile in sheffield, watching the blunts several times this year, nosworthy is not the player we need. He is very slow and tries things beyond his capability. The blunts needed someone to command their defence in the absence of Morgan and nosworthy failed to deliver. He'll get my support should he arrive but not my confidence.

It is "understood" that Evans told PJ that his budget for 2011/12 would be everything over £10m we get for Connor, currently the only bid is for £8m, and we haven't signed anyone! let's hope Connor has a stormer with the U21's and the other big clubs start bidding

This is a tricky one- Sheffield Utd fans seem to blame him as the number 1 reason why they were relegated so badly last season. Was good at Sunderland a few years back though and one their Player of the Season...
Seem to be repeating Tractorog!
If he's a back-up= fine. If he's going to be a first team regular= oh dear,-very rocky season ahead....

good to see you bobble. we have turned into the Sunderland reserves. Are we Sunderland in disguise? not an exciting signing, if anything would think we are just aiming to avoid relegation with players like this. ched evans was liked by the united fans and might be a much better option.knowing our luck we won't get him and end up with nosworthy. uninspiring if it turns out to be the case

Bobble- Nosworthy is English, he only plays for Jamaica due to his father.

And i remember the match at Brammall Lane this season, we won 2-1 and nosworthy was just awful, don't understand the logic of releasing Mcauley and then signing a poor mans version of him and as an ex-premier league player he'll be looking for decent wages as well.

If the club brings in someone of Mcauleys ability or better, the same applies to Norris as well, thats all well and good, but anything else would just be a plain lack of ambition.

Think we can get a much better option from the lower leagues myself.....We do need to all be a bit more patient however and remember that Ipswich Town FC are not the attraction it once was. The appointment of Paul Jewel is the very first step into the right path ahead.....Very worried about our CE however and his inexperience in all things football......

@ bobble..."these foreign players"?????

1. The implication being what? We should only go for English players? Or we could limit it to just those born and bred in Suffolk. The Athletic Bilbao of the Championship, we'd be...although not for long as we'd be relegated by about November. Surely moaning about players just because they are "foreign" is slightly ignorant and more than a little racist.

2. As somebody else has already pointed out, the player in question is English anyway. The internet is a useful tool as it enables us to research subjects about which we know nothing. Perhaps keep that in mind.

3. @ everyone...why are we complaining? We have about two centre backs on our books at the moment. Nosworthy hasn't even signed yet (if he even does) and we're already on his back. Give the bloke a chance.

Whatever happens we need 3 new signings just to get back on an even keel
(McCauly, Norris and Bullard exit) let alone players needed to strenghthen the original team, so a lot of work still to be done. !!!! Best of luck ITFC.
