Winger Bid Turned Down
Winger Bid Turned Down
Thursday, 14th Jul 2011 21:30

Town boss Paul Jewell says the bid for a winger has been turned down and that he is still waiting to hear back regarding the offer made for a striker. The Blues manager says it’s not a shock to him that the initial bid for the wideman was rebuffed.

Jewell said: “We are trying to bring in a couple more, if not more than that, for the start of the season. One bid, for the winger, was rejected and the other one we’re waiting to hear from."

The Blues manager says that he’s not downhearted and that having offers turned down is just part of the process: “If we bid £3 million they’re going to knock it back, so you may as well bid low.

"Whatever you bid first always gets knocked back, so it was no great surprise that our bid was rejected."

Jewell will talk to the club’s owner before deciding whether to lodge another offer, with other players also in his thoughts: “I’ll discuss that with Marcus.”

Think Chopra and Sharp are too similar, ipswich24. I reckon we'll go for a big lad up front as that's a missing ingredient there.

Why only make 1 offer if the first offer is ALWAYS knocked back? You're insane Jewell!

@pazelle maybe you make first bid to show interest and to age what price the parent club is looking for. Then you can have further talks from which you have stepping stones to build from IE first rejected offer.

The thing here is that, like playing cards, timing is everything. As PJ has said several times, every player has his price. Thus every club is potentially a selling club.

All he has said here is that the bid has been turned down THIS TIME. He also infers that this is the first bid for the player. I would hope that our first bid was a 'tester' (at a fee much less than we would ultimately be prepared to pay) just to see if the host club was interested in a deal IF THE PRICE WAS RIGHT. Thus rejecting the offer might well be couched in terms of 'Let's haggle'.

Of course if the host club held a water tight contract and wanted to keep the player they would turn the offer down flat and convey this message in no uncertain terms to prospective buyers. In such cases any repeat offers would probably be fruitless UNLESS THE PLAYER IS DETERMINED TO FORCE A MOVE. The host club may then be forced to re-assess its stance.

In this case we will need to wait and see if we are to pursue the matter or not. This might just be the first posturings of an extended negotiation.

Smoke and mirrors and no substance to any of these links, PJ is probably spending more time betting and watching the Open than talking tranfers.

I put in some offers that i can't tell you about but that won't get this column very far.

Hey, how about this, just go and sign the player and then tell us about it!
None of us would have to waste hours being sold this econdhand guff.

Jewel needs to bid a players worth not just trying to get them on the cheap otherwise we will start the season without any new quality players being added.
And we sure need more players, pace, striker, CB, RB and another midfielder.

Shame - let's hope we DO go back with another offer - particularly if they expected the first to be rejected. Still think we need FOUR new players if we are to challenge.

does ne1 on here really think ne club goes straight in with a bid that matches the other clubs valuayion? of course not, at least in the vast majority of cases. e.g, did we accept sunderlands 1st offer? no. did villa accept liverpools 1st two offers for downing? no. thats how business is done. pretty much every1 will try to get a player for less than hes worth. on some occasions it does work. on most occasions you have to go in with a 2nd or even a 3rd bid. so instead of coming on here tlking rubbish like some of you do just wait & see what happens. im sure if we feel ne player worth another bid, we will go back with another offer

I guess its similar to buying a house. Obviously you always go low. Never no your luck. Had this on a couple of houses I've bought and ended up doing well
