Lavery Turns Down Deal
Lavery Turns Down Deal
Tuesday, 11th Oct 2011 23:08

TWTD understands that academy striker Caolan Lavery has turned down the professional contract which he was offered last week. The Northern Ireland U21 international’s academy scholarship is due to end this month after it was extended when he suffered a knee injury last season.

The Canada-born frontman was offered a deal until the end of the season but is believed to want a longer-term contract with the club he joined from school in the summer of 2009.

Last season, academy manager Sammy Morgan dismissed reports linking Tottenham Hotspur with the 18-year-old, while Leicester were understood to be monitoring his progress with other clubs also likely to have been keeping a watching brief.

Lavery has netted five goals in seven FA Premier Academy League games for the U18s this season plus a further four for the reserves.

Obviously holding out for a bigger club, despite being given his first opportunities by Town...can see this one turning out that way. Sounds a promising talent though

Given the injury problems he's had, I can understand him wanting some long-term solidarity. A two-year deal would be fair for all parties, I think.

Give him the longer contract as a safeguard, just in case anyone else does come knocking.

Are town mindless Caolan Lavery has the makings of a top striker. He has shown this to be so, time and time again. But town still wants to pussy foot around with this measly offer.Give him a decent offer two year deal at least or you WILL lose him to a bigger club. He is worth it. COYB

We wish you well at a new club that will value you - this is the end of youth coming through at the club they just don't want them.

blue1 this club will sink like a stone without it's youth set up, which has proved very fruitful in the past. So I hope you are wrong, we let players go too easily, sign him up!

Can't believe we didn't offer him a deal 'til the end of next season.

I re-read the origina article three times and expected a correction from our Phil.

Shoddy business.

have any of you actually seen him play? What does he offer the team? what's good about him? Does he show more potential than Rhodes, Bowditch or Billy Clark (the 1st one!)? Because let's face it - Chopra, Ellington, Scotland, Priskin, Murray, JET plus Murphy - is he really going to get any first team game time this season? Probably not - so he obviously hasn't yet shown the coaches anything that suggests next year he could be knocking on the first team door

Looks like we may lose out - but what can we do - other than pay over the odds?

I thought Paul Jewell wanted to bring these promising players through the Academy and on into the first team. Does not give much confidence to these young players who want to see the club looking after their long term interest. With a poor offer that Lavery has been given perhaps he felt a little let down by Town .

@Dale - are you pointing out that one is spelt Clark and the other Clarke? because if you are - thats a bit penickety of you!

jas0999 what can we do other than pay over the odds. The answer is simple, Pay Nothing! I think knowing the way Paul Jewell feels about Towns young players over his hand picked quick fix elderly players. He will more than likely tell Lavery to leave and find another club?. So much for our Academy players. If this was to be the case I know who should be looking for another club? COYB
