Suspended Sentence for Edwards
Thursday, 13th Oct 2011 11:15

Town right-back Carlos Edwards was given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months, a £2,500 fine and a further 18-month driving ban at South Suffolk Magistrates' Court this morning.

The Trinidad and Tobago international will also have to carry out 200 hours of community service and pay £85 in court costs as well as a £15 victim surcharge.

On Monday, the 32-year-old pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Edwards, who was banned from driving for 12 months earlier in the year, was arrested close to his home in Kesgrave on September 26th after driving his daughter to school.

Edwards's wife Denille gave birth to premature twins weighing only 2lb on Saturday at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge where they are currently in intensive care in incubators.

Town are due to release a statement later today.

200 hours of community service, so that means standing around doing nothing at the riverside industrial estate 'punishment' centre, still at least he gets to wear an orange dayglow waistcoat

Some time ago, I was the father of a 2lb baby, born in a Cambridge hospital, while I was living in Ipswich. Believe me, that is a frightening experience to endure. I am relieved for all concerned that Carlos was not sent down. Now he needs to show respect for the law, and the community in general, and not do such an idiotic thing again. A wake-up call, Carlos.

Victim surcharge is for all crimes to fund victim support - even with 'victimless crimes'.

Would have been very frustrating to lose Carlos just as he enters his best form for us. I've got a feeling that this Wabara kid is going to really run him close for the right wing back role though

No one should be above the law, and the law has treated Carlos just like anyone else as far as I can see. The judge proabably recognised there were mitigating circumstances: a tough time for Denille and Carlos. I hope it goes well with the twins.

While I feelk sorry for Carlos atmI feel that he has got off very lightly with this matter. Also agree with belsteadbill if it had been Joe Public he would have been sent to prison.

What rubbish some people spout, you or I are less likely to go to prison, they were more likely to set an example through Carlos..... with the fact he is needed by his wife right now, he is giving something back to the community rather than us paying for his b&b and he has the chance to reform or get put away I feel the judge has been totally fair...... good job some of the numpties on here are not judges.
