Dallas View Wright as One for the Future
Dallas View Wright as One for the Future

Dallas FC manager Schellas Hyndman says Blues keeper Richard Wright's trial with his club is with a view to a possible future move rather than the 34-year-old joining the MLS side for the season ahead. TWTD reported that Wright had travelled to the US on Saturday with his return expected in the next day or so.

Hyndman says his club is looking to improve on their ongoing goalkeeping situation, although with the highly rated Kevin Hartman very much the first choice: “We felt like this year we wanted to really raise our goalkeeping situation.

“Last year we carried four goalkeepers, but we weren’t sure who that fourth goalkeeper would be [for the season ahead].

“Instead of signing someone, we have the opportunity to look at a few keepers and see if there’s someone we might want to sign in the summer window or maybe someone we might want to have on our radar for next year.”

Hyndman says Wright is unlikely to join in the short term, despite impressing in training with the Texas club: “He’s done well for us. But if we do anything, we might do a pre-contract.”

He says Wright wouldn’t be considered as a back-up keeper for the season ahead but more a possible first choice in the future with other keepers also likely to have trials in the weeks to come: “He’s a goalkeeper that would want to come in and be competing for a number one spot. This will give us a chance to see if he’s in that category.”

Meanwhile, it’s reported that Josh Carson was dropped at Leeds on Saturday rather than left out of the 16 due to the hamstring injury he had suffered against Blackpool, as had been understood.

Carson is currently weighing up whether to sign his new two-year contract, which includes an option for a third season, with manager Paul Jewell expecting it to be sorted soon when speaking to the press last week. It’s claimed his omission last week may lead him to delaying making his decision.

Good as we need Richard at Portman Road!
IMO an incredibly poor decision to drop Carson on Saturday by PJ and put Murphy back in. To not even give him a position on the bench was crazy and sure most people thought that it was due to his hamstring. Another decision that could of cost us the game?

In all honestly Richard Wright is far too young to consider a move to the MLS, I'd nail him down to a 3 year deal at town and make him first choice.

Richard Wright should be our keeper for the rest of the season, what is the pointing in signing him and then getting other keepers on loan who do not have the experience he has !!!

The decision to drop Carson from the squad at Leeds is just inexcusable, he was one of our best players against Blackpool. I get the feeling Carson has only been offered his contract so he can't walk away on a free, this is a poor, poor decision by Jewell

Concerned about Carson's contract situation, sounds like there's issues between him and PJ which must be resolved if we're to not only keep hold of him but also get the best out of his huge potential.

Just remember he is likely to come back Jet lagged as a result of this trip over the pond, and therefore is likely to drop to the lowest levels of ALB

So does it really look as if there is some hope is on the horizon?

I fear we have not seen the last of those tired defensive mistakes

Unbelievable decision to drop Carson in favour of a loan player. How is that supposed to encourage him to sign a new contract with us. One of the few young players at our club that really looks good for the future. Jewell makes so many poor decisions

I agree with all who rate RW as our best keeper, silly to trust a young goalie in front of a jittery back.ALB ,good shot stopper as he is, realley struggles at championship level.New boy looks the same.

Put Wrighty back where he belongs, No.1 choice, experienced, good defence organiser (every good defence has a strong commanding keeper behind it) and great shot stopper (suspect on crosses agreed, but always has been).
As for Carson WTF is going on, deffo one for the future and looks like another one set to leave, if he was fit Saturday and left out of the 16 what kind of games is Jewell playing????

"Dallas View Wright as One for the Future"

Brilliant. Obviously their manager went to the same management school as PJ did.

Cornishnick and CambridgeBlue, think about the one for the future comment, at 34 he's in his prime for a keeper in the top flight which now seems to be give or take a couple of years but somewhere ranging between 27-40, given that players head over to the poor standards of MLS and look like world beaters when they're past their Premier League or La Liga years, he's probably got anothe 15-20 years in him at that level.

IF PJ dropped Carson (IF) ... then he should do the right thing and leave. PJ really is poor. Re the keeper situation - PJ has failed with this also. Loans, loans and more loans. Why not SIGN a PERMANENT keeper - someone to hold down a place for years to come?? Oh, this is PJ we are talking about ... injury prone has beens and loanees.

What a bizarre story.

A) One for the future? B) 4th choice?

Americans are mental

hes one for the future alright very young at 34 another 6-8 years in him, the world is his oyster or abalone ...better than anyone else we have ..if we play a team with no leadbelly and no mc carthy we might win again, remember that winning ?

It will in Carson's best interest to leave but not for Ipswich. He will probably play in the Championship or premiership next year versus sticking with this manager who seems determined not to give him any real chance

Who "claimed" Carson was droped and who "claimed" his omission may lead to him delaying signing.

Paul Jewell or a reporter or his mate down the pub.

Why would you even consider signing a new 2 year contract if you are going to be dropped all the time, Paul Jewell seems to think he is going to sign quite soon

I cant believe that RW is rated so poor that he only rates as third choice behind Alec McCarthy and ALB.

RW 3rd choice at Ipswich behind Mccarthy who is 3rd choice elsewhere, but 1st choice here, which makes RW 5th choice overall. i fear for this club. And as for next season ME you will be lucky to fill one stand with supporters the rate you and Clegg are messing this up.

One for the future???????? Is Simon Clegg their CEO and PJ their manager too?

Lombokblue added 13:41 - Jan 25
Why hasn't anyone spoken to Smith and Hyam. They see them everyday, they should be able to judge how good they are and whether they're needed or not. I think Clegg and Jewell are trying to be to clever , they hear about the winding up order at Pompey and put in a bid, they offer Murray a contract so they get a few quid back if Swindon buy him and they think keeping a player guessing about his future is some sort of motivation tool. If Carson goes Clegg and Jewell should go

I despair if we are rating RW as our number 1 keeper.
