Jewell Hopeful Town Can Cut Through Kourouma Red Tape
Jewell Hopeful Town Can Cut Through Kourouma Red Tape
Friday, 6th Jul 2012 06:00

Boss Paul Jewell is confident the Blues can cut through the swathe of red tape which is preventing French midfielder Cheick Kourouma from signing his contract. The 19-year-old has agreed terms with the Blues but finalising agreements with his former clubs is holding up the free agent’s move to Portman Road.

Jewell said: “It’s very complicated. I thought we were just going to sign this player as he came in last season [on trial] and did really well for a week.

“He’s come in, he’s trained well this morning, and I wasn’t aware until yesterday that there was a bit of red tape to do with compensation or whatever.”

Town need agreements in place with his former clubs Genoa, Real Zaragoza and Sochaux as development compensation is due (although none would probably actually be paid) as he is below 23 years of age.

The club has to be careful to get these issues resolved in case one of his former clubs comes chasing cash in the future.

Jewell added: “They might turn around and want £200,000 and the situation might be a bit different.

"Sometimes you put yourself in the hands of the agent and the agent maybe hasn’t quite got the full story, but I’m hopeful it will happen.”

Is´n it quite straight forward? Development must be payed from a certain age (12 or 14 yrs old, I think) with a specific amount to the clubs where he has been involved. Think the rules are quite clear, unless you want to negotiate, of course :-) Anyway, these money are much less than even ordinary transfer fees, so should be a good deal....

Unfortunately PJ just isn't that clever if you believe the uninspired, uninformed twaddle that comes out of his mouth. Prepared to accept that if he shows he is a great coach and Manager but unfortunately......

What a load of bureaucratic ballbags - how is this compensation malarkey any good for a young player? Poor old Cheick Kourouma, all he wants to do is become Ipswich Town's first, best and only African Anchorman yet loads of irrelevant foreign clubs who don't give a crap about him want their palms crossed with silver?

Yet another stupid rule in footy, bet there's players not getting signed due to all this red tape and end up doing a rubbish job like everyone else because Genoa want a few grand for a long lost and unloved tadpole

I can't imagine that having to broker these compensation deals in two other languages can be that simple either. Having lived in France and experienced the red tape trying to get work permits, etc, I can appreciate there may be a hold up.

Apparently the only european country with red tape worse than France is... Italy!

Are you a mixture of Reggie Lambe and Kevin Lisbie in disguise?

Thank you for this story Phil. I did ask about Cheick K on one of the Luke Chambers stories. Now we have more idea on the situation. It can't be easy for PJ again. God I feel sorry for that man!! Still repairing the RK mess!!

If he is good enough for us to want him, if he is good enough to push for a 1st team place, then cut the red tape. These others clubs trained him, BUT didn't use him in match play, they are owed nothing as is his agent. I coached youth teams and if one our players was wanted by a Professional Club, it was an honour, not a money maker.
