Derby Day Delirium Written by paulthebluealien on Thursday, 19th Feb 2015 17:48 "Fasten your seatbelts folks, it's going to be a bumpy ride." These words, we are accustomed to hearing on a dreary flight home from some romanticised country. We've spent a week, or maybe more if we can afford it, in a luxurious location. We have spent the time sunbathing, drinking, eating and for the more energetic amongst us even seeing some of the beautiful sights where we have holidayed. This will not be the case on March 1st. The date has been set. The time on that day will make it's way to five past two and for the next two hours or so, every Ipswich fan will have their eyes fervently glued to the TV screen. Or, for those lucky to have tickets to East Anglia's most prestigious event in East Anglia's most ugly place, they will be watching the action unfold in the rubbish dump that is known as Carrow Road. So, I think we can all safely agree that it will be a bumpy ride. It will be arguably one of the most highly anticipated Old Farm derbies of recent years. Both teams are doing decently in the league standings and both are playing reasonably well. In the introduction, I label the holiday as 'luxurious'. The island of Lanzarote may very well be this, but the misery that is Norwich is certainly not. As for the beautiful sights? Well, we all know what we hope to see there. The sight of those arrogant Budgies wailing as we celebrate a long-overdue victory. The crowds filing out of the revolting-coloured stadium, a few tears running down the faces of the more hardened Norwich fans in the Barclay Stand. Now, I may be being overly harsh here. I know, I can hear you chuckling at that last phrase. I retract nothing. I have been to two derby away games in my life. Plenty more at home, including the most enjoyable day of April 19th, 2009. It was a deliciously warm spring day, the sun was baking the beautiful pitch below. But, what was even more beautiful was the fact that Ipswich won 3-2, inevitably causing the relegation to League One of our most dearly hated. The happiness I felt was unimaginable. So, of course, I almost expected them to exact revenge on us on my second occasion at Carrow Road. We were humbled ladies and gentlemen. We were torn apart from that fat lard that is Grant Holt, who should have been sent off within around two minutes of that game. That was under the leadership of the Dark Lord who is unquestionably one of the most dislikeable figures ever to grace the honorable home dugout that has previusly seen the likes of the great Sir Bobby Robson. So, the reverse fixture? I'm not even going to write about that because we all know what happened. This season's game was, however, a bitter pill to swallow. I remember leaving and hearing Town fans condemning the, "uselessness" of our side. I wrote a blog shortly after, offering justification for how our season would be OK. Some people supported me, others just laughed down the pub whilst drowning their sorrows. Now over the horizon, I was right. Of course. Town have had a terrific season, but we still have work to do. This starts with the upcoming two home games where six points is surely the target. If that can be achieved we will have netted 12 points out of 12. A fantastic response following our mini-depressive spell. Then, let us continue our bumpy Championship ride to the hell hole and let's exact revenge on those truly horrible lot. Honestly, I am not being fuelled by hatred here, have a quick sneak peek on their forums as poor Harry From Bath will have to next week and you'll see they are simply oozing confidence. I for one, hope we put them in their place. That it is the away end and us loyal Blues who are in delirium come 4pm on Sunday, March 1st, 2015. For those going, keep the noise loud and proud. Let's out sing and out smart them on the pitch. Give us a follow @Puffman180 folks, bless you all. Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
