Saw Les Carter's current band Abdoujaparov in the summer, good fun.

This is a great song of theirs about slum landlords, prompted in part by Nicholas Van Hoogstraten, referred to in the song as Nicholas van what's his face.

Fatman's got something to sell to the capital's homeless
At the Crossroads Motel for the no fixed abode-less
Where you can live life in style if you sleep in a closet
And if you flash him a smile he'll take your teeth as deposit

There's bats in the belfry
The windows are jammed
The toilet's ain't healthy
He don't give a damn
Just chuckles and smiles
Laughs like a madman
A born-again Rachman
Here comes Sheriff Fatman

Never really got the recognition/success they deserved.

Power pop at its finest.

First time for me very clean and tidy for a punk band ( think they are ), reminded me of this sound, well nearly like this sound it's the wonderful thing about music half of the time i don't know what's going on and then i think i do. Great to have someone like yourself on the board to keep me informed and on my poor old toes, great stuff.......probably talking out of my back door again.

Love this version of Who are you. It's a little different from the studio version.
The band were due to mime to the studio track but on tje day they decided to cut it live. The drums in particular are quite different and it's great to see the band having so much fun in the studio, especially the handclap section.
Keith Moon would dead within a few months of filming this, so it's always poignant.
Although he had become a bit of a shadow of his former incredible self, he looks healthy and happy in this video and this track is really his great last hurrah.
"I'm the best Keith Moon style drummer in the world".
All hail The Who!

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

More proto-punk at its finest, and you can see from the videos where Malcolm McClaren (who briefly managed the Dolls) got the idea for the chaos and attitude that underpinned the Sex Pistols.

And this comment from You Tube sums them up.

"Their music always sounded as if it was about to fall apart at any second. Takes a lot of skill to play like that. They were brilliant."

This is a great (and prescient) song which builds to a crescendo but I don't think I've ever heard it played on the radio or rated as a great song.

In a 1978 interview with Rolling Stone, Henley said: "'The Last Resort', on Hotel California, is still one of my favourite songs... That's because I care more about the environment than about writing songs about drugs or love affairs or excesses of any kind. The gist of the song was that when we find something good, we destroy it by our presence — by the very fact that man is the only animal on earth that is capable of destroying his environment. The environment is the reason I got into politics: to try to do something about what I saw as the complete destruction of most of the resources that we have left. We have mortgaged our future for gain and greed."

This is easily my fave song on Hotel California and is criminally underrated in my opinion.
