There's no way we're getting out of this. 21:41 - Feb 26 with 293 viewsDublinBlue84

If anyone thinks we're going to stay up now they need to give their head a wobble.

No movement or vision or bravery to break forward, defending too much with a sort touch when earlier in the year we were defending much more aggressively, out fought at set pieces. A skipper who is now way out of his depth, It was so laboured and lacking in urgency, players devoid of confidence to try something inventive moving forward.

To even have a chance of staying up we're going to need to win probably half of our remaining games at least, without any belief, confidence and all the issues of the above, we'll be lucky to get more than one win let alone the number we need. Even tonight when we needed a goal we were taking short corners and not getting the ball in the box.

Southampton was defining in terms of confidence and Saturday was another big moment in our season. But honestly at 2-2 against this lot, who are poor and lacking in confidence themselves, with an extra player, you would expect a lot more. The laboured nature of the performance and the lack of confidence to drive forward in a match like this has made me feel even worse than on Saturday.

Many people said that we have come wrong side of tight margins. Which is true for a number of games. However tonight we had a game where things did go our way like they haven't all season, a defensive howler and having a man extra for the majority of the game, and we still didn't make it pay.

We may have been competitive in many games but the problem is that teams don't need many chances to score against us. They are very clinical and we make it too easy for them to be and we are not clinical. That is a terrible combination as however well you play between both boxes, if the opposition are scoring from most chances and you're not, there's only one way you are heading.

There are far tougher tasks ahead than Man Utd and we are unlikely to have many games where we are both gifted a goal and have a man more for. So if we can't get a result tonight I really don't see how we are going to get one at all unfortunately.

I'm not complaining about the situation because I was grounded enough to know that it was always going to be like this and actually with how well resourced and the recent history of Southampton and Leciester in terms of this league, even to finish above them is an achievement. Sure, it still bloody hurts to see us go down.
