Sure it's been posted to death by level headed fans though... all this knocking Ashton for doing a deal like this (if it's true) is ridiculous... A) Delap almost certainly wasn't the only, or even number one choice number nine we were after. Our failure to land that player is/was far bigger a problem for us than Delap's contract. B) The implied assertion that Ashton didn't negotiate a higher release clause and/or lower percentage sell on is absurd. Of course he tried. Fact is, Delap wasn't the tried and tested and nailed on success he has proven to be. And who would really say they'd rather not have had him here if this was the best deal we could get.
