7 day look back, is all that glitters gold? 19:29 - Nov 9 with 710 viewsRIPbobby

Well it has been 7 days to remember for us in a quite positive set of points gained and it was almost maximum.

We started quite well at QPR and took an early lead and we look very comfortable looking for a second with them chasing shadows and then completely out of the blue a long, speculative shot from chair was spilled to the in form R's striker and suddenly somewhat surprisingly we are at 1-1 and hanging on for the rest of the half. We score almost instantly into the second half with a lovely long distance free kick from Nunez. But the real classy goal of the game was the third in which it began with out keeper and we worked our way to the byline and Darnell produces a lovely cross that Hirst could not miss with. Another lovely strike from Nunez put the cherry on the cakes in a 4-1 victory.

Then came Watford to Portman Road on Tuesday night. Town began really well and linked up all over the pitch. In something that has been a bit of a theme for us this season we conceded completely out of the blue with inform Louza stabbing home from 10 yards. Be did score a cracking equaliser from Philiogene who was picked out with a sublime pass from Cedric Kipre, who had looked a little shaky at the back to begin with. Didn't quite manage to get ourselves in front in spite of severral very good chances. Everyone in the ground was disappointed as we probably put in our best 90 minutes of the season and yet stout Watford defending and beach ball like finishing stopped us gaining the 3 points.

The off to west Wales for the long trip to Swansea. We started off pretty well and sprayed the ball all around the park. The Swans laid in several slightly miss-timed tackles on us and their crowd were disappointed that they were off the pace. We took the lead through a lovely angled shot from Jack Clarke. The kind of goal that he did so often in the stadium of light a couple of years back. Somehow in traditional fashion we conceded another equaliser very much against the run of play. An air shot helped the eventual scorer hide his intention and again we are harshly pulled level. Their crowd got up briefly, but we were soon back in front by an equally unfortunate OG after an angled attempt from Leif. It was soon 3-1 with a following up from a yard from Azon after a strong O'Shea header is kept out from the home keeper. Then 4-1 soon came around with another OG from ex-blue Burgess. Make no mistake the blues deserved to win, with once again a couple of bizarre goals.

So in my opinion our best performance was against Watford and somehow we only managed a 1-1 draw. QPR was weird in that we scored two very good team goals and also managed to pick up a couple of long range free kick goals from Nunez which went down well. The Swansea game was also strange in that we scored a long shot, set play and 2 own goals. I feel we deserved more somewhere in this match as we fairly battered the Swans. Not sure we created that much during the game, but we certainly deserved the win.

So maybe both the away wins flattered us a bit, but on the other hand we should have really beaten Watford. We are finding a bit more on the road, but we are still some way from our best. I have been calling from Jack Taylor and Matusiwa to be our holding midfielders away from home for a long time and I think this really makes us more solid. Strangely we conceded 3 really freaky goals, but certainly had our luck reversed at the other end too. SO many long shot goals from us this season, well in fairness we have seen a lot of the low block to frustrate us. So all in all we have just had the best 7 days of the season results wise, but we still have a long way to go to be closer to the finished article. I look forward to welcoming Wrexham to Portman Road in 2 weeks. Surely they wont put 11 behind the ball against us. If they try and play their normal game I think we could pump them. Can't wait.

One thing that I haven't seen on any of the highlights of the QPR game is that the ball is clearly out by a couple of feet on the touchline in the build up. Still could have defended it better though.
